BUT… why does this keep happening to me? I’ve had it happen 3-4 times in the past month and I really don’t understand it. I’ve been using Plex since 2015 and this has never happened to me until recently.
I haven’t switched routers, internet providers, or closed any ports (that I’m aware of) recently, and I can’t figure out why this keeps happening.
EDIT: I also know I’m not running the latest server update, I recently downgraded to see if this problem would go away. It hasn’t.
Has anyone else been having similar problems recently?
I’m having this same issue and many people on Reddit seem to be also. I tried refreshing the token which I thought actually worked, but the problem is back again. I constantly need to reboot my computer (Plex server) to allow my library to show up again and be able to watch movies again. This is very annoying, I’d love for someone to finally give me a real solution.
Same problem here, identical to your description mikext. Been using Plex for several years on a
NAS (ASUSTOR) and never had these issues. Tried the trouble shooting steps provided, and still cannot get to my media server. For me it seems to happen after the NAS goes to sleep although I have always used the sleep function in the past with zero issues.
This is really bad as like you all, paying for this service. I believe something has changed on the back end at PLEX and no one is coming forward to resolve this.
There are several threads on this issue and many “solutions”. While I can’t verify this, you may want to look closely at any updates or security updates that could have changed the way your router/firewall communicates. In addition, if you are using a VPN, which is becoming more popular these days with households, you may want to verify that it is not blocking your connection. As I understand it, while your server is in your network/on-premise, the Plex app still connects externally with their servers, authenticates and then allows you to get to your media.
Just a thought.
This has happened to me about 4 times now in as many months and still have not been able to nail down the actual culprit.
Sorry this may not be more help but good luck.
Thanks for the heads up. No VPN, so that’s not the problem. I’ll keep an eye out for any security/router/firewall updates that may be messing something up.
I’m usually having this specific issue when I wake my Dell Optiplex with Wake On Lan and then try and use the Plex app on my smart tv (Samsung). I just noticed now that Wake On Lan and then using the Plex app on my iPhone allowed all my movies/shows libraries to show up properly. Not sure if that means anything, just wanted to put that out there.
I just had the same thing happened to me when I opened up Plex on my Dell PC with Windows 10. I have never had this issue before. Does anyone have a solution?
Is Dell the issue with some bios update, or is this a windows 10 thing? I would love not having to walk down to the basement and restart my computer anytime I want to use Plex. Hey Plex, can you guys please let us know what we need to try next or change to have our media libraries and full functionality back after waking our computers with WOL?
I recently did a windows update and got the blue screen of death. Had to reinstall windows and then Plex ultimately. Now my issues are resolved, I can WOL without getting an empty library on my Plex player and no more unauthorized access when in my Plex.
And it’s back…Plex won’t show my media after a WOL. I guess I’m going to resort to leaving my desktop ON at all times and see if that gives me a different result.
