For the last couple of months I’ve noticed that when I add new media to libraries, they don’t show up until I do a manual scan of the libraries. Scan my library automatically is ticked, as is Run a partial scan. It may be connected to when I accidentally moved all the media off the server to a backup drive - I meant to copy, not move. I put it all back the next day.
I have deleted the libraries and recreated them, still no joy. I’ve even created new ones with different names, they won’t auto scan either.
Synology is running on a Linux based system.
If you already have a lot of media folders and subfolders in your library… the system might have come to its limit of folders it can monitor (default limit is approx. 8,100 folders).
You can change that using this post in the Linux tips & tricks:
If you don’t want to increase the number of directories (e.g. potential impact on overall system performance)… you can also exclude music libraries from automatic updates (this usually results in a significant reduction in folders to be monitored). See Settings > [Server Name] > Library > Include music libraries in automatic updates
Also… and just to be on the safe side: have you recently double-checked if you have enabled the related options in Settings > [Server Name] > Library (e.g. Scan my library automatically or Scan my library periodically).
I think you’ve nailed it people. 11,154 sub directories, of which 9449 are music related. I’ll go through the how to’s and increase the number. For now though, I’ve just turned off the auto music library updates.
