Libraries should bring up ALL content first, and "discovery" page should be a choice within that.

So, when one is on the main section in Plex and decides to check out TV, movies, music (or whatever), choosing one of those libraries immediately puts one into something of a discovery section. I think this is poorly thought out. The first section when clicking a library should be viewing the complete library with the “discovery” section an option within it. This seems right for a number of reasons.

First, the content is typically known by the person viewing it. I know what is on my server so I usually have an idea of what I’m going to watch when I turn plex on. This, of course, is different from Netflix or Hulu where I do not know all/most the content.

Second, the discovery section is somewhat redundant from the main page or shows random options like top drama or movies with such and such actor and this info doesn’t seem to be based on anything, it’s random. Helpful for Netflix and Hulu who use previously viewed content to guess what I like, bad for a media server where nearly everything on the server I think is pretty awesome

Third, the complete library view has a lot more useful filters and can be searched based on all sorts of criteria, none of which are available on “discovery”. If I feel like watching a comedy, but don’t know which one, I can easily search genre -> comedy.

Forth, the discovery page is therefore a “Hail Mary” page, throw it out there and it might get a hit. It feels like a last resort when I want to watch a movie, but can’t decide.

So the ALL content should show up first when a library is selected and discovery should be an option with in the ALL section.
