Discovery features are redundant

With the new Web interface launching and looking awesome btw, it does bring up again an issue I’ve had with the discovery features of the various Plex clients ever since they started adding these “hubs” to the interface.

As its implemented now isnt it sort of redundant to tell me about items I already have in my library? Im the one who put them there so I am well aware that say, Harrison Ford also stars in Star Wars.

Wouldnt discovery be much more useful if they worked like how the Extended Info add-on works in Kodi? Have it show you things that are NOT in your library that you might not have known about and would like to add to your collection.

I don’t think i have ever once used anything listed in a discovery section to initiate an evenings viewing. I already know what to watch since I am the one who put that content in there. I’d like to know about things I don’t already know about. Isn’t that the true definition of “discovery”?

I appreciate this functionality not necessarily for myself but for the 40+ friends/family I share my library with.

I know they find this feature beneficial because several of them have asked why the feature is only available on some of the clients. Just last week, someone asked me about viewing all of the available shows on a specific network, so I think it’s great that Plex just added that ability.

Oh I do appreciate the functionality don’t get me wrong. I just think its too narrow as it is and unless you are using Plex in a setup such as yours its like I said, redundant. Again using Extended Info as my example its combines both local media and external media in its recommendations/searches. The best of both worlds.

I also do not like the fact that recently added stuff always dominates the first screen
It confuses other viewers
Just give me my folders please and the ability too shut off newly added

.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. The problem is the use of Recently Added categories for discovery when it should be using Unwatched.

If something is recently added and watched, then by definition it has been recently watched. This is what makes discovery feel redundant, as this is the category of stuff you’re least likely to want to watch. If it showed just unwatched stuff everything you’ve just watched wouldn’t be getting in the way of what’s available to watch next.
