Library Folder Scan Order - Can it be Changed?

Server Version#: 4.144.1
Player Version#: N/A

I have 2 sources for my media, one that is local - a 52TB RAID5 array - and one that is remote, 120TB SynologyNAS. The remote is really just a backup of the primary server, every night I run an rsync job that pushes any changes there in case mine dies. But given how much more space there is there - and I’ve only got about 1.5TB free on the main server - I have a good chuck of stuff “offline” only on the Synology. That way if I ever want it again I can just copy it back over rather than rip/find it again.

The issue is when I add new content and a scan runs it seems to start with the remote server and given that’s over an SSH connection on a 40MB pipe (my upload speed) it takes quite a long time before it gets to the new files (that are local). For the moment I just quickly unmap the drive, do the scan, and reconnect it - but that’s a bit of a PITA and not something I want to keep dealing with.

Looking at the library the remote folders are first in the list (though they were added much later) so I assume that’s the order they are scanning (certainly seems that way, and I hate assuming). I suppose I could edit the library, delete the local folders and add them right back to reorder the list (not sure that would work though) - but that concerns me that I could lose some of the customization I’ve done (been running the sever for over a decade so there is a LOT of custom stuff, MANY collections, etc. etc.)

I do have everything backed up so I guess I can go back to that if things go badly but I’d rather do this right from the start - or not bother if there’s no way around it. I found one other thread discussing this but it never really answered the question and it’s closed so I can’t post there?

Thoughts? I’m sure one of the brilliant, kind and stunningly handsome folks around here as the answer, right??

Create two separate folders on the remote volume.
One holds the backups of media that are also on your local storage.

The other holds all the media which exist only on the remote storage. Add only this second folder to your library (plus the local storage, ofc).

If I’m reading you correctly that’s exactly how I have it setup. In my screenshot you’ll see a D drive and Z drive. The D drive is local with all the “online” media, where Z has the “offline” media. The Z drive actually has both the “online” and “offline” media but if I had both the D drive “online” and Z drive “online” I’ll have duplicated of everything.

So am I missing you or are you missing what I’m saying? The point is I want it to scan the local - D drive media first so when something new is added it gets picked up quickly then the scan can keep running and check the “offline” folder for changes (as rarely but sometimes does that change).

Don’t think you’re suggesting this but I do not want to have to create a new library as I want my users to just have a single library and not really care if it’s online/offline as anything offline can still be watched since I have a 40MB connection (about 35 usable) to the offline media which is plenty fast for anything other than 4K content and there’s no 4K in the offline folders.

Does that make more sense or am I confused? Thanks so much for your time and help, I very much appreciate it!

Curious if you had any other ideas or if I one of us was misunderstanding the other. I suppose I can just go for it but I really don’t want to risk my library given the huge amount of work I’ve put into it for over a decade.

Appreciate any further thoughts you’d have.

Thanks!

No, unfortunately I think you are right.
What you want to do cannot be accomplished.
