I use plex all over my house. With a TV in every room and friends and family using my account Remotely. One popular request i get and one i would love to add as well, is a porn or hentai library. The only thing that has kept me from doing this for years, is the inability to lock it behind a Pin or Lock. Sure i know i could create a home user with the library available and hidden on the other profiles, but then that would require multiple home users and clutter. I would like it to just be available and when i try to click on the library THEN it ask for a pin.
EDIT: The reason i would like this feature is because i do have a few people who use my plex that are under 18. It would not be appropriate for them to see the content of that Library. Or my mom…
Having the ability to lock Libraries and require a PIN would be a great feature. Even though you can create users and not share a specific library with a user is an option, it’s not suitable in all cases. Especially, for instance, on ones living room TV and having to switch users is cumbersome.
I also feel that this feature should not be locked behind a paywall, like Plex has done with parental controls. It is ridiculous that in order to obtain access to parental controls, one would have to pay for a subscripton.
To add to this, it would be really cool to use TouchID or fingerprint ID on either iOS or Android to unlock accounts and individual locked libraries on the client apps as well as a remote. This would totally avoid the need to reveal the pin each time on the TV screen. I hate having to ask someone to look away momentarily. When I have to enter the pin on the RokuTV or streaming stick, the numbers are visible and regardless of it being a pin, someone can either guess or pretend to look away. If Plex was able to use TouchID to unlock the account on iOS, then hopefully they can use TouchID as a remote method to unlock other client devices.
I also think as long as Plex Server can now send alert notifications about the server and logins, perhaps maybe Plex can add an app alert notification or email when a locked accounts pin has been entered incorrectly and how many attempts have been recorded as well as which client. This is a great way for parents to catch their kids and put a stop to it. I feel without this info, lots of Plex Admin users wouldn’t even know someone tried to attempt logging in with the pin. Let’s call it PIN PROTECTION.
For starters to not complicate it would be enough just to enter pin with remote. Mainly here we are talking about the use of living room television set so the papa and mama can sometimes watch x-rated library without the need of cumbersome changing of users and then by mistake letting the same user logged in next morning the kids open the TV.
Actually, for my use, Porn was not the motivating factor in wanting something like this. Our family Plex Server has absolutely -no- porn on it. But the OP stated when he opened this feature
OP was up front in their motivation for a feature like this.
Hi, Any update to this request. like others shared TV and switching between accounts is not always easy. To lockdown one library is an easier solution.
I’d like the ability to add an optional password or PIN to individual libraries within Plex.
Example: I have a main Movies and TV library for the whole household, but I also have a separate library that I’d like to access only when I enter a PIN. This would avoid having to run multiple servers or constantly switch Managed Users.
Ideally, each library could have a toggle to “Require PIN to view/play,” and the PIN would be prompted when entering that library, even if you are logged into the main account.
This would help anyone who shares their Plex with family or friends but still wants a private section without disrupting their main viewing environment
