Hi there! I’m a new user to Plex. I’ve used Kodi for many years and have been meaning to try out Plex to make it a little easier to watch a local content library on more devices in my home. All of my media is housed on a TrueNAS NFS share. I setup a new Ubuntu VM specifically for Plex and followed the installation instructions here: https://linuxize.com/post/how-to-install-plex-media-server-on-ubuntu-20-04/
The NFS mount for my media library is the same as detailed in those directions. I think the only other thing worth noting is that the particular share is read-only as I don’t want Plex (or anything else) modifying the original media or metadata directly. I don’t want it to screw anything up and cause a new online backup of a c. 6TB media library. As I understand it from other threads (here and reddit), a read only library shouldn’t be a problem in and of itself so long as Plex isn’t given delete permissions on the admin console (which is the case).
I can browse the NFS share with no issues on the Plex VM. What I cannot for the life of me figure out is why the library won’t scan. It always hangs on the first piece of content and won’t move beyond that. I’ve been pulling my hair out trying to figure out why but can’t come up with any reasonable explanation. I’ve blown up and rebuilt the Plex VM a few times. Each time, it’s the same result. For the time being, I’ve set this server up so it’s on the same subnet as the device I’m using to access. From a first attempt and reading several forum posts, it seems like accessing from a different subnet can cause issues…which is a little frustrating as I keep all of my other servers on their own subnet. But that’s a topic for another day!
Has anyone experienced this issue before? I’d be grateful for any assistance!!
Many thanks
