Plex Media Server doesn't see any of my files when scanning

Server Version#: v.1.41.6.9685-d301f511a

It seems I can set up a Plex Media Server. I go into the settings, under Manage I pick Libraries. I create a new library. When I try to add folders, the folders I want to add don’t appear. I can’t even seem to be able to navigate to them. They just don’t show up. But I can input the path manually. When I do that, scanning reveals no files whatsoever.

I know this is not a problem with how I have labelled files or anything like that, because I was able to successfully set up a Plex Media Server with Libraries full of files I could watch on my old computer. However, since moving to my new computer, nothing I was doing before works. I am using the same operating system (Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS) and the same Plex account.

I’ve tried changing file permissions but that doesn’t seem to help at all. I’m completely at a loss as to what to do here. It’s a shame, because with my old computer the Plex Media Server was so handy, but now it’s completely unusable and I don’t even know what changed. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

How about the FAQ as reminders of what you previously did for making certain the files are visible to Plex.

If this doesn’t resolve it, then we can look at logfiles and/or how things are defined.

Local drives

NFS shares

CIFS shares

Installing via Snap seems to have fixed the problem.

When you install the SNAP app, PMS runs as your username.

This confirms the root problem is file permissions

With everything running as your username, that won’t be an issue any more.
