Library showing two entries for 1 movie file

Hello! My library was fine until one of the latest updates. Now all my movies are showing as double entries for a same movie file. In the library view, I can see one entry with a description ‘1 Movie’ and right next to it, the second entry indicating the movie’s release year. I tries erasing the library and creating it again, but the same thing happens. Anyone else stuck with this problem?

Every time I add a new Plex server (not that often tbh), the collections issue pops up again, and it’s off to Google to again find out how to get rid of the damn things.

My suggestion:

  • Plex should not enable collection creation by default
  • Since automatic collections are generally useless 1 movie collections, nobody needs these anyway

Also - I did again dig up the info that collections come from the Movie Database agent - but collection creation for that is turned off by default in the gear settings. So I have no idea where these collections are coming from.

And I don’t understand why I’m seeing Collections side by side with Movies when the pulldown menu is set to Movies. There is a separate selector for Collections in the pulldown menu, why mix them both without giving a choice. Edit - ah ok, found https://www.plex.tv/blog/beginning-look-lot-like-collections/. I had to change each library’s Edit->Advanced->Collections setting from “Show collections and their items” to “Fsck you collections (Disabled!)”. All good now.

Are these mp4/m4v files, perhaps?
Then it could be the content of the embedded ‘Album’ meta tags.

Thanks, they are mp4/m4v files. For Plex to be auto creating 1-movie collections because they happen to be mp4’s seems…not highly desirable.

It is not because they are MP4 files as such.
It is because these files have a populated ‘Album’ meta tag.
A regular movie should not have this tag populated. An ‘album’ of movies is pretty much the definition of a collection.
If you don’t want them to be in a collection, empty out this meta tag.

plex should collapse/hide collections with only 1 item.

much like there is an option to collapse tv shows with only 1 season.

but it doesn’t :frowning:

Hiding collections that only have 1 item seems like it would be useful - then everyone could leave the collection tag population enabled on their agents, but would not be bothered by collections that are, “not yet useful” based on the content in the library.
