I paid for a lifetime membership expecting certain features to eventually be implemented. Although I see these features being added to a very VERY small amount of apps, there is NO information given out when support for other apps will be released.
Live TV has been out for some time, but yet there is still 0 suport for the XBOX one app, time frame? sometime between now and eternity?
Collections was released (a feature I have waited for a long time) Xbox one support… WELLLLLL… perhaps one day when we feel like adding to our list and perhaps get some people to start thinking about the process on how to develop it then aquire the work time to do it we will get back to you on a possible time frame…MAYBE
In the meantime your competitor EMBY supports collections through ALL its apps, not just a few selected ones, It supports Live TV through not one, not 2 …but yes…ALL its apps…Plex has been around much longer but is falling behind in support for its apps, your additions are POINTLESS if I cannot use them at all, and yes…I can gripe because I paid…I have waited, and now I think people should know there are alternatives that should be explored before diving into Plex who remains mute on app support.
Dont get me wrong, I like Plex, and want to continue using it, but I have started exploring Emby, and they seem fairly dedicated to winning over new users from Plex, and by trying to keep feature release uniform across ALL platforms, not just a couple and call it a day.
So Everyone, check out Emby until Plex can start really working on making these apps better.

I’m starting to think the same thing. We did get a response from elan about LiveTV on the Xbox One. They’re working on it from the server end which will help many clients, but no ETA of course.
I still have a similar frustration as you though. My biggest issue is new functionality continues to be deployed while I still can’t use the old half-baked features like commercial skip, collections, LiveTV, etc. since Plex prioritizes new features over parity. With a quick glance at Emby it appears that it might have some of the features I’m missing. Of course, the devils in the details. The feature list is practically identical to the feature list of Plex. What I don’t know is if the “sub” features I need are on Emby. For example, playlists via DLNA, shared Playlists, ability to share LiveTV and DVR management with home users, … I might have to install and find out though if Plex doesn’t pick up the pace soon.
Are you running Emby and Plex on the same server? Any conflicts? I probably couldn’t use the same TV tuner on both. That would cause too many problems. But do any other specific conflicts stand out? And how well does Emby handle the transition from Plex? I’ve had to make a lot of edits to certain shows like pasting in my own episode images for some TV shows since they weren’t available on TheTVDB or IMDB.

I have started playing with Emby off and on for the last Month. I have an HD homerun and have successfully paired it with EMBY, even with Plex still paired with it. However i will let you know that I disable Plex when using Emby, I have heard that they both can be used at the same time, But I can only imagine that will add a good amount of workload to your server…especially if it has to trans code 2 services at once.
I will warn you, the Emby Xbox one app has given me some heartache, the “trial” is extremely limited and does nto let you try out full functionality before diving in. I did purchase the 5 dollar monthly subscription to try out everything.
The Xbox one app (at least for me) had issues with playback, live tv and movies both would freeze randomly, at least for me, the team is VERY responsive and tried to figure out the issues, then another member part of the Ember for Emby team reached out to me, they have an app that works with Emby server that worked much better, it was 5 dollar one time purchase for the app, but you did not need to purchase a premium license to the Emby server to make all functions work. I can play live tv and watch movies.
Ember is still going through some re works, but for the most part works well.
Emby will generate a new movie info from IMDB, and just like Plex there are some “hiccups” with titlesBut this issues typically happen when I did not place the movie title with the year…a practice that I started a tad late in the game.
I would recommend Ember for 5 becks and load Emby server, it will give you a chance to test out Emby better before diving in further into a lifetime Emby subscription.
I might have to check this out. I have had enough of waiting for TV and DVR support without any info about how much longer it will be

You can run both on the same server without any problems. I can’t give you feedback on using the tuner with both, because I switched my recordings from Plex to Emby … you don’t want Plex recording TV Shows. It sucks sooo badly! (also once Emby did the record you can still setup a job that lets Plex scan that directory)
About the rest: for me the transition went pretty smoothly. In a library of about 8000 movies Emby failed on about 150. That’s pretty easy for me to find out, because I have the tmdb-ID written in every filename. So I just need to run a query against the Emby DB. Posters may be different on Emby than on Plex, but overall it’s pretty similar.
At the very end you are stuck with those films that don’t have a tmdb-entry. But these you’ll have to setup manually anyway no matter what media server you are using. (As the filenames are the same on Plex and Emby wou could write a script that pulls the metadata from Plex into Emby)
So bottom line: my transition took about 20min to install and configure Emby. About 1 day to scan the library. Maybe 1-2h to spot and fix the falsely identified movies and about another 30min to setup the clients (iOS and Linux).
Biggest problems: I wrote some scripts to automate import and handling of content into Plex. I still need to switch that to Emby. It’s prob. 1 day effort. Only problem … Emby uses keys in binary form which I’ll have to find how to handle them. Also Emby locks the DB once it’s running … that’s proper SW design, but a bit annoying if you use quick&dirty scripts as I do.
