Linux setup-Server on one computer, files on NAS device

Server Version#: ??
Player Version#: N/A

So I am really confused here, and the shortcuts to Linux and setting up a server don’t seem to provide anything.

First off, I am running Elementary OS, which is an Ubuntu build. It is v 5.1(Hera).

I think I’ve installed PlexServer. I’ve followed the directions online and didn’t get any errors, but since Plex installs the way it does, I don’t actually have a direct application to launch, at least that’s how I understand the Plex setup. MY user for the ‘Entertainment’ computer shows up as logged in, though, when I access the web portal.

My music is set up on a NAS, which I have connected to, and which O have bookmarked so it will auto login on launch. That is working. I have rebooted and the folder is automatically connected.

But when I add that bookmark as a library, I get no results. “There are no files in Library”, I have tried scanning my library, to no avail.

I’m sure that this is related to how much “in control” you are when you use Linux. I get it, they don’t want to make anything easy, it’s what sets Linux apart, or something like that…

Anyway, I have no idea where the folder lives. I have copied the location, which is in this case smb://music/music/, but that doesn’t work. Is it buried somewhere int he file structure when I browse? Should I enter the actual ip address of the NAS? I am missing something simple here, I’m sure of it, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Plex is running as a service on your Linux, using its own user (plex).
If you’re mounting the NAS with your own account, it won’t be available to the plex user by default. Also… it’s not enough to bookmark it… you’ll need to mount the NAS drive/share in your local file system.

There’s a post in the Linux tips & tricks section on how to mount a NAS drive so your server can actually access its content (depending on the technology used to share the NAS drives):
