I installed Plex DVR this morning and have been playing with it for a few hours. It is VERY nicely done. Clean. Easy to understand and setup. Great work!
In your BETA notes you state that Live TV and Time Shifting are not available, but that it is something you are interested in. I would like to strongly urge you to work on those features for the next release, along with a few others. Here are my feature requests in order of priority:
Live TV
Time Shifting (very important for sporting events)
Grid style Program Guide option
Definable default record path for DVR recordings
Tuner Utilities — Signal Strength, etc.
Once again, I am very impressed with the BETA you’ve released. Very elegant with superb usability. Add a couple more capabilities and you’ll rock the OTA world! I hope you understand the great potential of this new feature set. Millions of people are trying to cut the cord but have not had a way to integrate broadcast television into their media collections. This will provide those teaming masses with a totally new and different reason to join the Plex universe.
I would second Ron’s comments! I would love to have Live TV as an option and be the number one feature request. Additionally, I would like the ability to prune out ads when recording is finished.
Thanks yokoyama, I see that’s a relatively new plugin. However, I am willing to pay $150 to get this to be natively supported into plex! Plex, take my money, please…lol
Agreed. The current Beta is awesome so far. Set up was painless, but i really need a few things for the wife acceptance factor so that i can ditch WMC. I need a grid style guide, live tv and the ability to point the recordings to a folder so that my MCE buddy can post process the shows. Thank you for the great work so far.
I’ve been wanting this for such a long time, I immediately bought a HDHomeRun connect. Luckily I then read a little more and realised LiveTV wasn’t supported and have now cancelled the HDHomeRun
LiveTV included with the support you already have for DVR will be the single greatest thing Plex has done in the last few years. Really looking forward to this and I hope it arrives sooner rather than later!
When i saw this update i was so excited to finally get my OTA TV and Plex Content in one place. Then I read no LiveTV, bummer. Going back to pointing my Plex Server to my MythTV box for now and switching the remote back and forth for my wife and kid… Some day… Some Day…

Although defining the default record path would be a nice to have, I have overcome this by re-ordering my TV folders putting my “recording” folder first, vs last. This effectively put my record folder as the default starting folder in the list.
Also, would like to be able to define more than one HDHomeRun devices. I have 3 Extend devices, giving me 6 ATSC tuners available, but currently can only define 1 device (2 Tuners). As you can imagine, it is easy to have recording conflicts when all are not available (especially when WMC is also using the available tuners).
I’ll be testing MCEBuddy shortly. I’ve pointed MCEBuddy to monitor the E:!PLEX\TV Record folder, and to save the processed files to the T:!PLEX-TV Active\ folder. Pretty sure it will work.
Added a like and as per my comment on another similar thread this, LIVE TV support is MORE important to me than recorded content. I want to be able to watch a Sporting event or the current NEWS LIVE from any of my plex devices, with pausing as a bonus.
The current discovery layout of up coming content is GREAT, I was really impressed with the way it looks. However save a few specific local shows it is LIVE TV I want…
add another +1000 for the Live TV & Time Shifting Would be great to have this integrated so you can ditch other apps and just use Plex. Don’t get me wrong, I like EyeTV and Channels etc but having Live and Recorded in Plex would be great.
Similarly, being able to record/setup/manage recording from the Plex clients rather than just the Media Server would get another high vote from me on the wish list please !
Lastly with regards to ad removal, agree that would also be nice. Currently using EyeTVComSkip on the Mac for those recordings with EyeTV and that works really well.
+1 for Live TV + Timeshifting, this would be huge.
And general congrats to the team for this so far! I was very pleasantly blindsided by the announcement of its existence and was stunned by the quality of this ‘beta’ experience.
iirc the grid-style EPG is actually copyrighted/patented and so would involve licensing from … Rovi? So while I’d like that, I won’t hold my breath.
