Live TV and Time Shifting

Nice this is moving forward. +1 for live TV.
Until that happens I will continue to use my DVBviewer setup for TV and recording.

+1 as well here for Live TV

LiveTV and time skip are top of my list more than PVR.

I’m glad to see the excitement! Live TV and time-shifting are definitely areas we are interested in. No time-frame to share at the moment.

+1 for Live TV + Timeshifting

without the above, its just half way there as a product

I would love Live TV, i have the ability using a plug in using my HD home run, the Beta DVR is good but the tv guide is clunky and needs to be more like a traditional one to be of any use imho,
the ability to choose recording folders location as well is a high priority,

i have a rock solid way to live stream real time tv in plex already so i will only use the DVR beta for testing.

i really hope one day a Proper TV guide will appear,

I use DVB-T (uk) with my HD Home run and i have all my channels and channel favourite installed and can stream on all the Plex clients i use. (mac OS X, roku, amazon firestick and Apple TV2 jailbreak)

Keep up the good work

I actually thought the lack of a grid guide was very refreshing. I, and my family, really don’t care what channel and time something is on. Using the program guide the way it is, is awesome!

I do second the idea for live TV and time shifting, but do it in a plex metaphor, please!

I agree with its nice to have the tv guide in the plex environment, but i just don’t like the way its cluttered up with covers of programs i do not want to see, with a normal style guide you can flick to favourite channel and time of day to see whats on in the future to record,

this i have been doing in Eyetv for years nows their guide is really good

Another +1 for Live TV… It looks like we’re moving to a fuller/better Plex experience and will help me to finally move away from Windows MCE. So everything that Ron Burley has suggest I’d fully support!

I read from the release notes that they will (hopefully) be looking at additional TV Tuner systems, lets home that this BETA developments are high up on the “to-do” list!

+Live TV - this is a natural extension and really important to get that live experience.

  • Channel grid - I know this is going away over time in the industry, but it’s very helpful for browsing. Also, intelligent recommendations are really a requirement if you’re going to drop the guide. Since that’s probably a giant lift, the guide is a needed and easier.

But major kudos to the Plex team for the beta. The pricing is also extremely fair. When you look out in the market for similar capabilities, the hardware is expensive, or they hit you with monthly fees that rack up. Even Silcon Dust charges monthly programming fees, and you must rely on third party software for DVR capability which also costs more.

Plexpass is progressively getting better and better.

Live TV would be amazing, yes…that’s literally the only reason I have Kodi installed.

That said, allow me to also be the first (of hopefully many) to state that I would rather live TV take some time and be “right” when it comes out, than it be a rushed mess that requires a gajillion hacks and just barely works at launch (you know, how PVR support was when they first rolled it out in XBMC). Also…LiveTV without a proper EPG UI (a real one, not a horrid "EPG made to fit in the current plex channel UI) is a non-starter.

So again…please bring it, but I’ll gladly wait for it to be brought right

XOXO,
a guy who runs TVHeadend & Kodi on his PMS box just so he can watch OTA HD because Xfinity wants $15/mo extra for more pixels.

+1 for live TV

Great addition would be live TV and time shifting +1…

Live TV+++

For live tv and time shifting, Programmatically, what are the issues? I assume that reading something while it is being written would put a lock on the file and interrupt writing unless there were some way to have an additonal file being written or being stored in memory?
Are there issues on the playback device as well?

Would it be better to just buy a tablo?

I would second Ron’s comments! I would love to have Live TV as an option and be the number one feature request. Additionally, I would like the ability to prune out ads when recording is finished.

Thanks Plex!

@nayra

You can already prune ads if you use MCEBuddy.

Create a new library called Recorded TV. Set all new shows to download to this library. Set MCEBuddy to watch this folder and convert the files.

Duh…thanks, i was not thinking, tested it out and it works great. Now as soon as i can manage via xbox app and there is a grid guide and live tv i will be good to go.

I use a HD Home run tuner and HDHR Viewer 2 (check out the plex forums as to how to do it)
, i have added custom Channel logos and edited the channel list to have my favourites

Just no TV guide but thats not a problem, i use this set up when i am out of the country with work so i can watch UK TV with out the need of a VPN as my plex server is in the UK and it transcodes the Channel strait to me

Hence you can see why i am excited for the DVR beta

I have been running this set up for the last 5 months and i am very pleased with it,
When the DVR beta came out i was super excited as it finds my HDHome run, but the TV guide i think is awful.
I have been using EyeTV DVR software with USB tuners and now HDHomerun tuner for the last 6 years at least and schedule recordings so i can just pop them into my library with a bit of remote desktop action and a quick export (native mpeg) no transcoding

Nicely done! This beta prodded me to reconnect an HDTC-2US I had laying around (disconnected when I switched over to a Tablo DVR about two years ago.)

I second LiveTV/Timeshifting and multiple devices.

With these features and a HDHR3-CC I should be able to able to retire my oft-rebooted Moxi DVR which was declared end-of-life last month.

+1 for live TV with time-shifting.
