Live TV buffers every 10-15 seconds on Plex web and iOS client - plays fine in HD HomeRun client

Hi Plex Users,

Many thanks to anyone having tips on this situation. Here’s my set up:

  • Plex server vers. 1.9.1.4272 installed on ReadyNAS 212
  • PlexPass signed up
  • ReadyNAS 212 has latest firmware, 1.4 ghz ARM processor billed as transcoding 1080p
  • Plex web vers. 3.20.5
  • HD HomeRun Extend gigabit hardwired, tuning 48 channels in the HD HomeRun client with no buffering
  • full gigabit network - NAS to hub gigabit hardwired
  • Windows 10 PC running web client gigabit hardwired to hub
  • program guide downloads fine
  • transcoder quality set to automatic
  • DVR transcoder set to highest quality

Any idea as to why it’s buffering all the time?

Thanks

Maybe I should be posting logs?

Is the problem that my HD Homerun is already transcoding the signal, and that Plex is re-transcoding it?

Or is it just that my NAS processor can’t keep up? In which case I’ll want to return the NAS for a refund, because Netgear advertises it as transcoding 1080p.

I just bought an HD Homerun extend to attempt to reduce file sizes and allow myself to adequately stream while I am out and about… Both fail miserably. The 1hr episodes are 9gb, this is larger than the HD Homerun connect files… It shows that they were transcoded with ffmpeg and SiliconDust has concluded that this is an error of plex. Even if I tell plex to use the HD Homerun transcoding, and even if I set the quality incredibly low, I get 9gb per hour files that are 1080p (or native to the broadcast, some are 7gb files and 720p)
