I’m just wondering if there are any plans to enable Live TV Direct Play on the Xbox One or if it’s even possible?
The apps HDHomeRun and Kodi both allow this, but from what I understand these maybe transcoding the content on the Xbox itself (I’m not sure if they actually are though), of which Plex doesn’t do for any content.
I’d also assume that the Xbox One would include the necessary codecs or functionality as the machine has live tv functionality built in (maybe this is also transcoding the content though or Plex doesn’t have access to the functionality, etc).
It’s certain that the Xbox One has MPEG2 decoding, as it’s native live TV tuner functionality would not work otherwise, as you say.
I don’t know if this is exposed for UWP apps to use, though the HD Homerun app works fine. It does seem that Plex should be able to send direct MPEG2 streams to the Xbox. Perhaps someone on the dev team can weigh in on this.
Hi there. There are plans to enable support for direct playing/streaming Live TV on the Xbox One, but it’s not possible at the moment due to technical issues that we’re working on resolving.

I’d like to know this too - I recently purchased Plex pass to use the live tv functionality (to replace my old windows media centre setup) but was hoping for the grid guide layout plus direct play. Right now it takes 10-15 seconds to wait for the channel to start due to the transcoding (compared to 1-2 seconds on MCE on my old Xbox 360). That pretty much makes it unusable.
With the guide setup and direct play, Plex would be a real replacement for WMC for me
