Just got an HD HomeRun Extend hoping to watch and record live TV with Plex. Couple of problems - I’m running the Plex Server on my Synology DS214play NAS. It says I’m up to date, but is only on 1.5.3. Is there a reason I can’t upgrade to 1.7? Is that why I can only record but not watch live TV?
Also note that Live TV will require transcoding (noted here: where it says
Live TV requires the ability to transcode the content, so you need to ensure you run Plex Media Server on a device capable of transcoding. (Some NAS devices may not be able to transcode.)
and according to this list you will be limited to lower bitrates streams (SD only):
But… the Extend transcodes to h.264 on the fly, right? @larsonjd, I have a similar set up with Synology. Plex works fine with release 1.6.1; could not get good results with 1.7.x. – for me, too much buffering and pixelation of the video. And I am unable to watch live tv because I only have Amazon and Roku streamers, so I cannot help you there.
Well, first of all, PMS ver 1.6.1 does not have live TV so not sure what you were watching. It certainly was not Live TV which is what the OP is talking about.
Second, it may very well but there is still some transcoding going on as I see it happening when I stream live to my iPad.
