I am setting up Plex Live TV & DVR.
I have two HDHomeRun Prime Tuners (3x tuners per, for a total of 6 tuners)
I’m running Windows Media Center, with those 6 tuners.
I’d like to dedicate a single tuner from one of the HDHomeRun Primes to Plex for testing Live TV and DVR.
Can I use a single tuner from one HDHomeRun Prime for Plex in this fashion?
I assume there is no way to share the six tuners between WMC and Plex ?
There is no way to specify to Plex to only use tuner 0 on a Prime. Plex assumes when a tuner device is added that it has exclusive access to the device. If WMC is using all 3 tuners on the device and Plex tries to start a recording and the HDHR sends a 500 error back to Plex rejecting the request the recording will fail.
Any chance this feature can be implemented, to where Plex is able to utilize a number of tuners less than the device offers up? (Windows Media Center is able to do this, so if it was easy for Microsoft to implement this in Windows Media Center, I assume Plex’s programmers could do so as well?)
Once again, I’m trying to make the transition from Windows Media Center over to Plex. But, I am unable to make a full cut from WMC, because, frankly, the Wife Acceptance Factor of Plex is still not there.
My goal is to have the two running side by side until I can safely decommission Windows Media Center completely. Using a Single tuner for Plex would make it much easier than removing 3 of my 6 tuners from WMC during this process.
Who said it was easy? And how many YEARS was it before WMC had every DVR feature implemented under the sun? Not trying to be crass here, just pointing out that Plex is probably a few years away still from being a full WMC replacement.

I apologize for the improper use of words here, you are correct, perhaps it wasn’t “Easy”, I have no way of knowing if it was “Easy” to implement or “Hard” to implement.
The fact that WMC still runs laps around Plex in the Live TV and DVR arena is not my fault. (This is my opinion, and, might not align with your opinion… and that’s ok, both ways)
I hope it is ok with you, and others, to express that a feature that I’m used to in another product, is a desired feature in Plex. This is how Plex can potentially get better.
If the folks at Plex are not aware of what it’s customer’s are wanting, how are they to know they should look into adding those features?
I’m not blaming anyone for anything here so I’m confused as to why the idea of being at fault was brought up; as I stated, I was simply setting expectations regarding where Plex IS versus where WMC has been for years.
There’s a mechanism on the forums for posting in the Features section and making it possible for folks to them vote up — I think this would be an excellent feature request to post there
