First, I’m really thankful for the effort on supporting more tuner vendors and expanding Plex capabilities.
In my setup I have HDHR Extend and now Hauppauge WinTV-quadHD.
1- How can we distinguish which tuners used while watching live?
2- Is there a way to strict the recording to one designated tuner? (In my case I’d like the to use the HDHR for recording and the QuadHD for live view)
In theory you really shouldn’t need to. The software should dynamically find out what tuner is avaliable when it tries to tune and record. If the HDHR doesn’t have tuners avaliable the software should go to the next HDHR. Now this is all based on the software handeling it with logic in it’s software
Ramx2, I have the very same arrangement. But how can I tell IF the quadHD is being used. When I go to setting/server/dvr all I see is the hdhomerun. I try to add a device and put in 127.0.0.1 without a port number (I don’t know what it is). It fails to find anything.
The HDHR is plugged to Mohu antenna and the QuadHD is plugged to HD Frequency cord cutter antenna. I was having issues to make both tuners capture the same channels count. After long persistent work I got both tuners capture the same channels count in that case I don’t care which tuner is used to record.
Still I prefer to strict the recording to a specific tuner since we all know HDHR extend has better compression with H.264.
I know now it’s not the wright time to add such feature while PLEX team is exhausted implementing, supporting tuners and adding it to different platforms.
I can’t wait to run PLEX LIVE TV on my APTV4 AND Samsung TV (Tizen O/S) eventually all platforms will be supported
@Ramx2 I would also like an option to specify a tuner preference. I found another thread on the forum: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/275142/tuner-priority that looked promising for adjusting the order in which tuners are utilized. I changed the ID numbers in the Plex database table to put my Connect devices ahead of a Prime I have, my OTA comes in at a higher resolution than the cable company broadcast of the same channels. My Prime is still used first for recordings.
With Live TV now it would also be beneficial to specify that certain tuners, not just devices, are to be used for Live TV.
Just FYI, I couldn’t locate this thread for some reason last night. I actually found I have 2 locations for my Plex data. I was modifying the database on my C: drive where Plex is installed. I actually modified the Plex storage location to my D: drive at some point and probably should delete the files on the C: drive. Once I discovered the D: drive files and database I was able to change the order of my tuners and Plex is now using my Connect devices before the Prime.
I’d like to be able to specify the number of tuners Plex DVR can use in setup. So for example, with an HDHomeRun Prime I’d like to be able to specify the use of tuner 0 and tuner 1 leaving me the ability to use tuner 2 with a different system / software product.
This is an advanced feature you would see in polished software DVR products like Microsoft Media Center and NextPVR. It would be nice to see Plex DVR do the same.
@johnm_ColaSC What is your PMS running on? It looks like I need to go the SQL route but my PMS is running on my Shield TV so I’m now wondering if I’ll have access to that DB file.
