its working fine for me, the program guide however is a joke. You need to at least be able to display a tradition TV guide so that you can easily see whats on across all TV channels at all times.
Cant be that hard!
What is your setup in full? Plex server specs, wired or wireless network etc?
Plex server is a Mac mini i5, 8gb ram, SSD, saving recorded tv onto my Synology 1515+ NAS via wired.
Just adding to the list of people with Live TV not working in a usable way on Apple TV. Running off an Ubuntu server with hauppauge wintv hvr 2200 tuner card. Live stream either doesnāt load at all, or may last a few minutes. Feeling a bit annoyed buying a lifetime pass for this at the moment.
One could easily argue, if I was Rovi, that Plex was currently violating patent āUS9426509 - Client-server electronic program guideāā¦but since it is such as grey area not enforceable (by Rovi).
Emby is not violated the patent because they have removed many of the patent infringements such a rich graphics, example below:
This EPG meets the allowable guidelines, oh and they are a company located in the USA
Itās almost worth considering Emby just for their DVR and Live TV function; the grid-style EPG is much much better.
The apple tv app lacks a lot. I would love to see a program guide added and more stability for live tv as its been a great switch for us to have access to all of our media.
Mostly works for me on ATV4. Sometimes it will fail to play, but it will usually work if I just try again. Wish the forward/back worked better for live like others have mentioned. PMS is running on a Ubuntu VM, AMD APU with 4gb mem, and a HDHR Connect, everything wired.
Okay, I have read this stream, but my problem is very different. Live TV via Plex works great on my iPad and the Plex app on my Amazon Firestick works fine. Itās not a network problem for me at all. But on the Plex app on my Apple TV4 I donāt see live TV at all. Not even an option anywhere. Now, I can, of course, Air Play from my iPad to the Apple TV and everything works fine that way, but that defeats the purpose of having a Plex app. So for all of you who are complaining that the live TV and the DVR arenāt working right on your Apple TV - how did you get that to even show as an option on the Plex app home screen?

Does anyone has the issue that the Live TV option in the Apple TV app randomly dissapears from the top and side menu?
It seems the only way to get it back is some random luck and restarting Apple TV and PMS in the right orderā¦
I accidentally found it a few days ago. scroll all the way left so you get the side menu pop out (didnāt know that was there, did you? neither did I.) Then scroll all the way down, itāll be after your last library and News below that.
I also am having trouble with live TV ābufferingā I have all Cat6 wire running to Gigabit switches. My server is on my Synology DS1515+
Has this issue been resolved? I just installed and HD HR Quattro thinking I could replace my TiVos and only have to use one input on my TV for the AppleTV but the LiveTV is buffering like crazy. I was about to buy a lifetime pass but was cautious and did a monthly pass. Thereās no buffering with the HD HR app. I may have to look into other options for the HD HR rather than plex. Any recommendations? Anyone using the Channels DVR?
Long time Plex user and supporter here (since OSXBMC days)ā¦
The Apple TV Live TV support is probably the biggest joke Iāve ever seen. Itās really unfortunate and I had to add a āme tooā to this thread, but really, the only options are āWatch Nowā?
I understand grid view guide is coming (and likely to Apple TV first), but can we please have other ways to filter Live TV? Just having Watch Now isnāt enough.
My wife is going bananas trying to use the Apple TV for our Live TV, itās an incredibly horrible experience and definitely not what weāre used to seeing from the Plex team.
Temporarily, Iāve installed Emby and using that much of the time for Live TV as the Live TV / DVR experience in Emby is miles ahead of where Plex is. I wonāt give up Plex, but you guys should really look at Emby and see what theyāre doing right over there.
I dipped into the Channels app and wow what a huge difference. Plex has a long long way to go. Easy to install from start to finish. Works great, no lag or buffering on the live feed. Commercial skip is flawless but no lifetime passes. So not sure if Iām going to keep it with the subscription fees, my reason for cutting the cable is to cancel any recurring fees. I hear TiVo may be announcing something at CES about Next Gen software, so Iāll see what they announce with that or wait until Plex makes some improvements. For now Iāll stick with Channels since the first month is free and maybe go another month.
