If I buy the Plex pass, can I watch the content of my homerun HD outside of my network?
It is very much possible. I have it running here with a HDHomerun HDHR5-4DT and Plex.
However, there are 2 different things which play a role here:
- remote access from outside your home network to your plex server
- tuning over-the-air television
You only need a Plex Pass for 2).
Before buying a Plex Pass, you should try to get 1) working.
Because it depends very much on both the setup your local network and your ISP whether you can get it working. A Plex Pass will not make a difference in this regard.
Additional info: it is very likely that you will also need a server machine which is able to transcode your live TV signal on-the-fly. Which is not trivial if you receive high-definition TV over the air.
I tested it on my network and all the devices worked, but I need to know if through the external network if I will be able to watch live TV.
The computer I am using is a core i9 9900k, 1tb nvme, 1080ti and 32gb of RAM.
Currently I use the Emby, but after some updates this is crashing a lot on my tvs. That is why I am thinking of switching to the Plex.
Test it from outside your home network. This test is crucial.
That’s what I want to know, if I buy the plex pass, will it work on the external network. So that I don’t buy the license for nothing.

I thought that was included in the free tier? It should just be the DVR that requires a Plex pass.
It used to be required for just watching as well.
But it has been made available for free at the beginning of the COVID epidemic. I was not sure if this was to stay that way indefinitely.
But the current FAQ says watching is free, so I guess it may stay that way.

It works for me. I have two kids in college in different cities. They both watch our local football games through my Plex server at the same time.
