rest of message: it may be due to a weak signal.
two weeks now trying to actually watch live tv for more than 30 seconds. Fires up fine, then goes into buffer over and over and says above message.
but records fine.
this is ridiculous… everything works except live tv. signal is fine and proven.
running out of patience.
anyone out there have a solution?
using hdhomerun duo and running live tv through plex.
Tried multiple versions of roku and never gets any better. reset everything and nothing gets better. but on my computer with kodi and the hdhomerun add on , works fine… cannot resolve getting actual tv to work !
I following, I exactly have the same behavior. With the same devices…
I changed settings/transcoder in plex to the following
: use hardware acceleration when available
: background transcoding x64 preset to “very fast”
: transcoder default throttle buffer to 30 (was 60)
: transcoder quality “prefer higher speed encoding”
and in Roku I modified my video setting to lower quality (tried different settings) and eventuall
got to the point that the live TV would work most of the time without buffering out.
BUT : when I went to my server (on my windows pc) my processer was close to maxing out. and if I were to add another TV with tuner number 2 on the Hdhomerun, it for sure buffered out.
All in all was a “no go” the resource usage was over the top, So will probably drop my subscription to Plex Pass.
My computer has 6gb ram and a quad processor, and should be pretty darn good.
I am contemplating going to an Apple Tv setup and use “channels” that would be another couple hundred dollars, and again just a gamble. Because I cannot find anything online where someone else has the same setup and was successful with the apple tv.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks
I’m having the same issue
Similar problem. I’m unable to view live TV via plex with hdhr viewer2 plugin.
Working for months and now appears to have stopped working after updating to 1.16.3.1402
I get an immediate Playback Error and the following message in Console:
get - invalid ratingKey value: 0http://{serverip}5004/auto/v{channel#}
Is it a Roku exclusive problem? I don’t have that trouble when I use the Live TV - DVR on other devices but can’t watch live TV on my Roku TV…
I have the exact issue. I noticed that live tv channels take 20% of my server’s CPU, and those play fine over Plex. Other stations take 60% of my server’s CPU, and those channels always get the “We could not reliably play your live tv channel.”
I also started having this issue more recently. I have HD Home Run Extend, Roku 3, and Plex running on a Synology DS218+. It seems that the video signal from the HD Home Run Extend works pretty well when using the HD Home Run app on my computer, but when watching the same station using Plex, it bombs out eventually, usually after a few minutes.
I was able to fix my Plex server and no longer experiencing the issue. I did a lot of troubleshooting. One this I did was install the HD Home Run channel on Roku and the playback was great through it, so it narrowed it down to Plex being the issue. After trying a few other things, I came across a support article about transcoding and a few forums thread about hardware transcoding. https://support.plex.tv/articles/201575036-why-is-my-video-stream-buffering/. It seems that I updated my Synology which essentially disabled my Hardware transcoding and the NAS just couldn’t keep up and giving me the Live TV playback error as noted in this thread. I uninstalled and reinstalled Plex and all is good (seems to be the only way to get Hardware transcoding to work again after updating the NAS).
