Live TV starts but then stops with Weak Signal message.

First off, this is not a weak signal issue because all of my other TV apps work as they should. I am currently running this on Nvidia shield to an IOS (Tested local). I find the show and click on it to start it up. It starts up right away but then within like 1 second it stops. I then get the message Weak Signal and it just sits there. However, I can click pause and then play and it plays pretty good. I feel like I get little hiccups but it plays pretty good. I have seen some other people having the same issue but really not narrowed down. I have a REAL antenna (the big one) on top of the house and never had any issues with it. Also, the first round of updates where you guys enabled live TV, I did not have this issue and it worked just fine. I really don’t use it for live TV that much but records some shows here and there. I wanted to try out the new timeshifting feature and noticed this issue.

I am running a HDHomerun Connect/Nvidia shield 5.2/Latest Plex server/Latest IOS

Hoping logs will help here.

Update #1: I did notice this. When the show starts for the 1 second, I see a timeshift bar on the right side all the way to the end. I don’t know if this has anything to do with it but seems strange that bar would show all the way to the end on the right side. Screen shot shows a little bar but it goes from where you are in the show all the way to the end. When you then pause it and unpause it, it shows correctly where the timshifting is available in the bar.

Update #2: If I pause it right before the 1 second, it shows the bar but then corrects itself and is paused. If I then unpause it and plays just fine without any message at all. The timeshifting bar is also correct. So it seems there is something going wrong right when it starts to show that message and pause the live TV.

As always, keep up the good work… I use Plex every day and everything seems to work great for the most part.

P.S. Any idea when we will be able to start a recording, come in an hour or so later and timeshift from the beginning to catch up to live tv? (I love skipping commercials)

On the P.S. part. If you setup some post processing with comskip you can already do that for completed shows. I’m running Windows and using mcebuddy but have seen other threads talking about comskip on other platforms. Basically after a recording ends mcebuddy gets the file, removes commercials, converts to mp4 an puts it into the correct location in my library. No fast forwarding during the show since comskip has removed all the commercials making an hour long show around 40 minutes long. This only works for shows that recording has completed. Would be nice to record a sporting event and be able to start at the beginning and fast forward through the commercials until you catch up with the game. Looking forward to College/NFL football seasons to see how post processing works with football games. I started with Plex DVR after football season was basically over, at least for my teams it was over.

I have used Comskip before years ago… I think with MediaPortal. That is an option but for my use, its mainly football games where I don’t care for commercials, halftime and even skip 30 seconds in between plays. I think they will get there pretty soon. I know there are other options out there and the HDHomerun app actually works pretty good right now for that on the Nvidia shield. I do enjoy using plex for my almost all in one solution.

I have the same Weak Signal issue on all my devices. Where I am using plex to view the live TV. Android TV, IPad, and Iphones, Samsung Tab. Now I looked at what I could, however I know it is not a signal issue in the traditional sense. I have an older TV hooked up to the same Antenna I am showing High and 100% signal both digital and channel. That being said the only other place I could look at weak signal was possibly the WIFI signal. Well that is not the case for my Andiod TV. my HDHomerun connect is on the same wired Gigbit network my TV and Internet is. When I use the native app for displaying Live stream. it works perfectly, While writing this entry I have two live streams going at the same time one wireless and one wired, I get not signal issues as the same channels I get with the Plex app where it is doing nothing but hesitating and stopping and then stuttering over and over. This is all local with in my house. over the internet it is no better. I have tried turning on the Transcoding option with in the Plex configuration and gotten no difference in the plex stream. I only have issues with the Live stream sofar. Nothing I have set to record as happened yet.

Nobody else is getting this?

Yes I have two generations of ipads and its common to both. Live TV doesn’t work at all here but the HDHR Channel works 100%.

Still getting this with 4.15 IOS. Anyone else? Like I said… I just have to pause it and click play and it works just fine.

Still getting this… Updated my Plex server on my Nvidia shield to 1.8.0.4109 and IOS 4.15 and still get the weak signal message. If I hit pause and then play it works just fine… so I really don’t have a weak signal!

Having same problem on my end accessing either via iPhone, iPad, or AppleTV. HDHR app will stream live tv just fine.

Mine will stutter initially about 5s after the stream starts, seems to buffer for about 2-3 seconds then the problem disappears. Does this with just about every show I watch. Since it doesn’t linger or repeat, no big deal on my end.

I have same isasue. Ubuntu Linux, hauppage terrestrial quad tuner. Anyone have different?

I am running this: I am running a HDHomerun Connect/Nvidia shield 5.2/Latest Plex server (1.8.0.4109)/Latest IOS app (4.15). On thing to note… I am still on IOS 9.3.3. However, it seems like Marshalleq is not even using IOS to get this issue, so it might not matter. I have more logs of the issue if anyone cares.

I am running this: I am running a HDHomerun Connect/Nvidia shield 5.2/Latest Plex server (1.8.0.4109)/Latest IOS app (4.16). One thing to note… I am still on IOS 9.3.3.

Updated the IOS app today… still getting the weak signal issue.

Logs

Interesting note on this one. I have an old Iphone 5s that was just laying around. I upgraded it to IOS 10.3.3 and then installed the latest version of Plex on it. I then hit my server and did NOT get the Weak Signal message. So the only difference between my two phones is IOS 9.3.3 (Iphone 6S) and my other phone on IOS 10.3.3 (Iphone 5s) I guess you could throw in the fact that I have had the plex app on my 9.3.3 phone for awhile and have upgraded the plex app (over the top) on several builds instead of a clean install.

ANYONE from Plex have any thoughts on this?

I am having same problem. Playback on the iPad lasts for about 10 seconds then stops with this message. Works great tho on my iPhone.

What I have noticed is that when this happens on my iPad, the wifi connection is gone and my wireless access point has crashed. Like I said, or works fine on my iPhone, so it is bizarre that it causes this behavior on the iPad. Does anyone notice this happening with their wifi?

There was a bug on the nvidia shield that has since been resolved. Make sure you’re on 1.8.1 and test again. If not, please provide PMS and client logs.

iPad 2 has this problem, iPad mini seems to work as does android.

I think I have fixed my issue with the weak signal. I deleted the app on my Iphone and just reinstalled it. Of course I lost all my synced music (almost 200 albums) but I GUESS I can sync again. I don’t think a person should need to do this but it fixed my issue.

I have this problem on Galaxy S6 and S8, not iPhone 5s. 5s works great. UGHHHHH. So frustrating!

I am on 1.81 on the Nvidia Shield and I still get the weak signal issue as well as the picture freezing on live tv while the audio continues
