Hi There,
I’m currently experiencing issues when sharing Live TV over the web via my Linux Server with 3 Hauppage WinTV DuoHD tuners installed. My 3 year old son when he’s with his Mom and Step Dad watch TV via my server and the channels after a length of time come up with “Playback Error”
I originally thought it was because they were using WiFi, but since they have connected their laptop to Ethernet the issue still persists. I’ve also seen the issue on my home network while streaming TV on both Firefox and Chrome.
The server is a Intel i5-3330k with 8Gb RAM and a Nvidia GTX-750ti with 2Gb RAM running Ubuntu Mate 18.04LTS with Plex Media Server 1.13.9.5439
I have also noticed the Remote Access tripping out on random intervals, which is strange as I’ve allowed the ports through the router.
Also I have noticed having Transcoding on each Tuner on or off doesn’t do anything to either the playback or recordings? should this be the case?
I’m running Plex on a WD MyCloud PR4100 and recently purchased HDHomeRun Quattro and it’s working great with Saorview freeview channels on the HDHomeRun App on any devices at home. When I try to stream the live channels on Plex, likewise I’m having picture quality issues, buffering, distorted picture etc. I also setup recordings to happen on the HDHomeRun and they save into a new folder on Plex called “Recorded Movies” & “Recorded TV Shows”. When I play content from the recordings through Plex, there are no issues or distortion and picture quality is excellent.
I think the issue may lie some on the transcoding of the Live TV on Plex and may require an updated fix for this issue if I’m correct.
Just to share my thoughts with you and hopefully we can get a resolution from Plex.
Thank you.
Well, it’s happened again, as soon as another person who has an account on my Plex Server connects to live TV, the channel just goes into a “Playback Error”
I’ve added my current logs of the issue, and hope that one of the Developers see’s this and finally gives us some answers??? I doubt it though…
Hi There,
Seems that my plea for getting to the bottom of this error is falling on deaf ears with Plex Dev’s who seem to think adding extras to the software is more important than getting other things fixed first? That’s not how I used to work as a Developer, it was fix the issues first before adding new features!!
Anyway, I thought I’d upload my latest log file, in hope to get some response…
Plex takes one live stream and starts writing to disk using native mpeg2 at an average bit rate around 19.39 Mbit/s for HD. To send to a browser, Plex transcodes the audio and video but the bit rate stays the same on a local connection. Your CPU would be good for 1-2 streams this way but for the remote, unless you limit the bandwidth you would need 20 Mbit/s or higher on you internet upload service along with traffic shaping to keep the stream from breaking. The Nvidia card is no help and your cpu’s gpu is too old to give good results.
Hi @pl_5309,
I agree, but it seems it’s the transcode through the browser we’re having issues with. I run a dedicated i5-3330 with 8Gb RAM, Nvidia GTX-750ti and quite a few Terabytes of HDD for shows, movies etc, along with 3 Hauppauge WinTV DuoHD tuners for Live TV, which this is what I’ve had issues with through both Chrome and Firefox.
Each time I connect to my Plex Server via my Network or through the internet, and with another user connected via Live TV also or a recording that’s in progress, the issue is that when the recording ends or one of the other users changes channels or stops streaming the Live TV on their end it would stop both Receivers while I was watching TV, and my logs show an HTTP error for this to for the Tuner which states it disconnected both users.
I’ve since installed Plex Media Player on my Ubuntu Laptop to test while my sons cartoons were recording for 2 hours and when this reached the end pf recording, it didn’t trip Plex Media Player out, which tells me that there’s a issue with the Transcoding through both Chrome and Firefox. I’ve passed this issue on to the Team Members and I do hope it gets fixed sooner rather than later! As there are Plex users out there that aren’t as savvy as I am to install PMP in Ubuntu.
As for HD channels using close to 20Mbit/s, I’ve noticed the BBC HD channels here in the UK use close to 40Mbits/s which in my eyes is a little crazy I know. I have always set the “Let Plex adjust the quality” and also set the “Bandwidth” section of the server to.
On a last note, through both Chrome and Firefox, even with just one either on a HD or SD channel, it would throw the user out totally after a random amount of time with a “Playback Error!” which upon looking at my logs showed the same issue as it did when my above issue was created “HTTP Stopped and Deleted user” very strange, as this issue only showed up since the last couple of updates…
