Tuner Make/Model: Digital Devices Cine S2 V7A /w TvHeadend Backend (SAT/IP Server)
Finally made TvHeadend (my central DVB hub for all my TVs + DVR) to act as a SAT/IP Server, which made it a lot easiert to integrate with Plex.
Just to mention that:
I could’ve accessed the above tuner directly (for those interested in), but then Plex would kinda block it from being used with TvH same time. With TvH as a SAT/IP server for Plex, tuner sharing becomes much more easier…
Anyway, what I’m really about:
I’ve got an issue with Live TV transcoding. While my box can HW transcode movie in my list just fine, it refuses to do that with Live TV content when direct play is available in LAN (however, it will transcode Live TV when access remotely, since i suffer from only 1Mbit upload)
E.g., a standard TV broadcast 480i with a video bitrate of about 5-7Mbit (according to TvH) will be directly with as much as 39Mbit (according to Plex) to my devices. I do realize, this is kind of an ‘up to’ value, which does not really reflect the actual bitrate.
However, if I’m in my garden, right at the edge of my wifi range, my highest throughput would be just around 2-3Mbit. Streaming Brain would recognize that with normal movices and lower quality. Not so Live TV, which will struggle to keep up.
I can’t even force it to manually transcode down to like 1,5Mbit. It would just stop streaming completely (not starting transcoding in reality at all).
I contrast, as mentioned above, this only happens in my local LAN, with a device, that would normally be capable of direct play the content. It transcodes fine, when i use Chrome browser as a client, since it is already limited in available codecs and stereo audio.
So, what’s wrong?
