I have recently been having problems with 1 of my 40 some channels not trancoding. It’s very odd all of the other channels stay within the remote bitrate cap of 3mb 720p except for one. Plex attempts to direct play a full 1080p picture for this specific channel. Of course it pauses constantly at this definition. I can not for the life of me get plex to transcode this channel. Any sugestions.
I am running this on a ubuntu 18 server.
Thanks.
John
Having some similar kind of problem myself. In my case plex isn’t transcoding live-tv at all.
Rolling back to Android version 8.0.2 fixed the problem for me
Thank you! Appreciate the help, I am using Firesticks for all my clients, so changing os isn’t possible. I did however notice that it is trancoding correctly on my phone, which also uses an older version of Android.
I didn’t have the problem until the last couple updates, although I’m unsure of which one caused the problem. It really makes plex unusable for me, so pretty disappointed on the lack of effort on this. Ad content comes first for Plex I guess. Disappointing.
The problem with transcoding exists since Android version 8.1. Maybe you can verify this using your phone.
A little bit more help from the plex team would be really nice
Yes.
It’s an older phone running Android 7.1.2.
The transcoding runs right where it should. Set the limit at 2mb the flux is 1 to 3mb, right on target.
It’s not even coming close on Fire Tv.
Some are over transcoded, while other channels are not at all.
Ignores any transcode limit set. To test this, I set the server to 320kpbs, and it still areams direct play!!! Arghh!
Shouldn’t this issue be important to Plex?? It’s important to is customers that spent tons of time setting things up!
Search the word transcode and too many topics come up to list!
I’m also having this problem with a fire stick client, up to date Linux server, and a clear stream tuner. No matter the channel it doesn’t abide by bandwidth limits and tries to direct play, which I don’t have the bandwidth for. I’ve got more than enough cpu to handle multiple transcodes but it just sits idle.
Edit: inconsistently I can force it to transcode by manually selecting a lower bitrate during the stream. Then it’ll respect the bandwidth limits.
Not many people would have the bandwith. I hope Plex is working on this because it really is a big problem!
I see transcoding threads that have continued for 2 years with no resolution.
Hopefully they get on this quick.
People buy equipment based on what Plex says it’s capable of, and no action on the part of Plex to fix these VERY major issues.
