Does anyone have complete workable instructions to install Plex server on pi5 Thanks
That should be the ARMv8 CPU ?
If so, and you’re running the Debian/Ubuntu OS on it, then Plex.tv/downloads has the package for it.
At this point, a normal Plex setup would be all you need.
You can start here with all you can do.
https://support.plex.tv/articles/
(very first section is “Quick Setup”)
If we don’t have the docs here, I have seen a few reputable videos on the internet which do a good job of walking you through step-by-step
Thanks for this
I have made several attempts but I do not know what to do when the programs do not follow my expectations
1 I am running raspberry pi 5
2 IThe downloads for Plex media for Linux has a choice for distribution- a fedora , intel 32 bit B. Fedora , intel /AMD. 64 bit
C Ubuntu Armv7. D Ubuntu ARMv8. E Ubuntu , INtel 32 bit
or F Ubuntu Intel AMD 64 bit
3 Just to confirm my platform is Plex desktop Linux
4 I Install flatpak results in command not found
5 run flatpak shows command not found
6. When I tried scottgeek tech programme I could not get past their item 3 as it said there is a fault in the programmed
Help -Thanks again
Gerry
Thanks for that info .
It seems pretty clear that you’ve never used Linux before?
Also, as a suggestion and question –
Are you stuck on using a Pi 5?
I ask this because a Pi 5, with SSD , fan, and case will cost more than a bonafide MiniPC that runs a lot faster – and is tons easier to use (you can put Windows on it)
Please see the comments here.

Sorry - just bought pi5
I’ve just retired and need a mental problem to enjoy?
Thanks Gerry
Gerry,
May I be bold and ask/make suggestions?
- Can you return the Pi5 or are you certain it’ll suit your needs ?
- If not, would you consider a MiniPC which can actually DO some serious work?
- Cost would be comparable ( $169 USD less adjustments for SSD + HDD with Prime)
Suggesting in the blind because:
This is one of my QA testing box for PMS.
I can and do play anything PMS supports. and it’s quick enough for multiple.
It has hardware acceleration support for video.
Pi CPUs do not have any HW support. They have to brute force everything.
It’s not a pleasant experience.
Given you’ve just retired and I’m retired but still working (hahahahaha),
I know the “keep my mind busy” problem.
Here’s my longer term thinking:
- $169 (with Prime) / $199 without
- $60 for HDD enclosure (USB 3)
- HDD the size you want (This is the painful part – We can discuss if you want)
With this, You’ll have a 4"x4" box you can play anything with (4K videos, etc) on even a couple TVs / remote players at the same time.
Down the road, if you want to keep growing slowly, Grab a USB hub and another HDD setup – or — you can go crazy like us a get a NAS
Learning and operating Plex (media curation) will keep you busy (the Honey-Do list).
If you want Linux, there’s a real challenge. At least the Beelink is strong enough to run Windows if that’s your choice.
I always suggest using the OS you’re most comfortable with first and play with Plex. You can start with Windows if you like – The box will handle it. Then, when comfortable but not fully invested, decide if you want to tweak your challenge list and finalize the configuration.
How’s that?
