Loading video files takes a very long time

Hi,

I have looked at previous mentions of this problem, slow loading of video files. I don’t seem to be able to find a suitable answer.

Ok my problem, whatever video file I startup, doesn’t matter which one, it takes a long time to load (30/60 secs). Once it runs, it is just fine. I tried optimizing my database, no success. Latest version installed of plex media server

My situation, i have plex running on my nvidia shield. My data is on a very fast synology NAS. My network is all 1 gbit. Whatever device I play my content on, second shield, phone, tablet, it doesn’t matter. Slow loading. plz advise

One more small thing, I also notice that the server has trouble detecting changes for my video files. i need to manually scan for changes, yet my settings on my server states it should detect changes and update library when it finds something.

Just taking a wild stab at part of this. If your drives ‘fall asleep’ it will take extra time for them to spin-up to get you going.

Regarding the detection of library changes, that quit working for me after installing Version 1.22.2.4282.

Hi,

no my nas is always on, my hdd’s perform the same, whether i haven’t used the system in a while or all day. so it doesn’t appear that it has to do with hibernation

I really hope someone can help me

ok fixed it

“On your nas, turn off opportunistic locking in the samba config. Plex opens 2 copies of the file and the second one is delayed by oplocks which take 30 seconds to expire.”

This was the answer!

This question is still open:
