-movie (2003)
–movie (2003) [Ext].mkv
–movie (2003) [Ext]-poster.jpg
–movie (2003).mkv
–movie (2003)-poster.jpg
The poster isn’t being scraped into Plex for me, but will if I add a “poster.jpg” into the folder.
The above structure is normal behavior for tinyMediaManager when two movies are the same in the same folder. There is NOT a way to get it to also make a poster.jpg in the above situation.
I tried moving the movies apart (two different folder) and that does work. Is that my only solution other than manually making poster.jpg for each folder with more than one movie version in it?
I’m not sure I get your point…
With that file/folder structure, Plex will recognize the videos as different versions of the same movie (“movie (2003)”). If you use folders for each movie, Plex will usually only look for files named ([cover|default|folder|movie|poster].ext). The structure you had used is used if your files are all in the same /Movies folder.
Even though… Plex would not show different posters for those different versions of the same movie.
If you want the movie versions to show as individual instances/items, you’ll need to move them into different folders and subsequently split the record in Plex.
Example:
Movies
Movie (2003) - Theatrical
Movie (2003) - Theatrical.mkv
poster.jpg
Movie (2003) - Extended
Movie (2003) - Extended.mkv
poster.jpg
Then, after scanning the library… select the record and go via ... > Split.
I suppose what you had in mind works only in an example like this:
Movies
Movie (2003) - Theatrical.mkv
Movie (2003) - Theatrical.jpg <- no "-poster" suffix!!
Movie (2003) - Extended.mkv
Movie (2003) - Extended.jpg
I believe in such a setup you would not be able to subsequently split the item inside Plex.
My point was to have the poster image show up for a movie when I didn’t have a “poster.jpg” in a folder but just:
movie (2003) [Ext]-poster.jpg
movie (2003)-poster.jpg
in the same folder since tinyMediaManager does not make a “poster.jpg” in these cases.
As is I’m able to split them if I want to, but I don’t want them separate. Hence the same folder.
From what you’re telling me the Local Media Assets won’t work for me and there is not a way other than adding “poster.jpg” in the case of two version of the same movie in the same folder?
Sucks, alright. I’ll have to figure out how to batch copy the poster file and rename the copy file.
