For movies with arbitrary text in filename the local poster must also have the very same arbitrary text in its filename in order to be recognized by agent.
In the following example Plex will pick up the local poster:
movie: The Matrix (1999).mkv
poster: The Matrix (1999).jpg
Whereas the following naming will cause Plex to ignore the poster:
movie: The Matrix (1999) - 1080p.mkv
poster: The Matrix (1999).jpg
I know that renaming the poster to “poster.jpg” will do the trick, but with hundreds of movies it will be nearly impossible to search for a specific poster.
Please fix this and allow Local Media Asset to look for the local poster by ignoring the arbitrary text.
I have read those two articles and they do not provide an answer, but are rather silent about described case.

This only works if you have your movies separated by individual folders. Won’t help anyone with hundreds in a single folder. Not only that some people like different pics for different versions of a movie.
I store my movies separated by individual folders, just as recommended by Plex. And I meant that I don’t like the “poster.jpg” naming.
As for the different posters for different versions - for those Plex could use the “Title (Year) - ArbitraryText.jpg” file as primary poster (if such file exists) and also include all “Title (Year)*.jpg” files as alternative posters (or primary if there is no exact match in filename).
I.e. for “Blade Runner (1982) - The Final Cut.mkv” the poster named “Blade Runner (1982) - The Final Cut.jpg” would be the primary poster and “Blade Runner (1982) - 1080p.jpg” would be included in movie’s metadata as well.
I’m sorry… I think I got lost. What is the reason for this request.
The reason is to allow the local poster in the same folder as the movie to be available for selection as a poster for that movie, ignoring the arbitrary text in movie filename.
Currently, some local posters has to be renamed to be seen by Plex. I’ve explained details earlier.
