Local Server Stops Working

Server Version#: 4.2.3-69 Synology
Player Version#: 8.35 iOS
I’m running Plex on a local Synology server and it’s been working great since I first installed it. I run it on 6 Apple TVs throughout the house. Two are wired to Ethernet, most are on the same WiFi. After months and months, the one in my bedroom wouldn’t connect to the server anymore. It still connects to another Plex server I use that’s outside my network. All other streaming services still work fine. I’ve tried moving it to other locations, even connecting to Ethernet, but it doesn’t make a difference. If I bring one into the bedroom, it’ll work for awhile then exhibit the exact same symptoms. My suspicion is that I installed Jellyfin on the bedroom and that somehow killed it. I tried removing Jellyfin but that didn’t fix it. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I’ve moved ones that stop working to other rooms, even connecting to Ethernet, but that doesn’t fix the issue.
Jellyfin works fine on the local network.
Any ideas?

There are times when the AppleTV gets itself twisted up

  1. Undo and then redo all the network settings in the ATV
  2. Uninstall, Reinstall, Relink the Plex app
  3. Both of those failing, (this is the harsh one), full reset it back to fresh.

I found one that wasn’t working, currently connected to Ethernet. I changed it to WiFi, no help. I did a total reset to factory, then installed Plex, then tested it, no joy. I’ve gone and checked all the other boxes and now 4 don’t work, and 2 still work. Of the working ones, one is on WiFi and one on Ethernet.
Any other suggestions?

Can you grab me the PMS log files please ?

My log file is 8.08MB, just over the limit. Are there files I can remove to pare it down?

Pull out the PMS Plug-In Logs folder. See if that gets you below the limit.

You can then compress that folder and upload it in a separate post.

I didn’t see any of those, so I deleted ones related to DLNA. If those are useful, I can send in another post.
Plex Media Server Logs_2024-05-28_16-15-50.zip (4.4 MB)

Just thought to check some other devices in the house. Iphone works, my son’s Chromecast works, but the Amazon Alexa TV has stopped working.

Alexa TV or FireTV 4K please ?

This is playing now.

It’s an Alexa TV. It did work when I first installed it. I have old Fire TV 4Ks I could set up if that would be helpful. Here are the DLNA files if that means anything.
DLNA.zip (3.2 MB)

I wish I could help with DLNA but I don’t use it.
The PMS DLNA server leaks memory and requires PMS restart daily.

The logs you’re showing me are an infinite loop.

It can’t transcode (no transcode profile to guide it),
It goes back to DirectPlay but has no info
It falls back to a blind guess.

Might be time to rethink the DLNA video solution.
I know DLNA audio is entirely different

TBH, I don’t know if I’m using DLNA. The conditions I’m experiencing are, if it’s working, it’s pretty much perfect, but some devices just fall off and I can’t figure out how to get them back on.

Have you tried using the Plex app in your devices or are they older DLNA -only ?

What can you tell me about the playback devices ?

I know the AppleTV 4K (2017 → current) can run the Plex app quite well.

Yes, I run the Plex app on all devices. When I set them up and they were connected, they worked flawlessly. The main problem is that many of my devices lose their connection and I can’t seem to restore them. I suspect the DLNA issue is a red herring. In fact DLNA Server isn’t enabled on my server, although DLNA server timeline reporting is checked on.
