Local standalone metadata file

Plex on its own doesn’t handle such local metadata files.
There are however some 3rd party agents that can be used for that purpose – e.g. GitHub - gboudreau/XBMCnfoMoviesImporter.bundle

There’s an existing feature suggestion to provide native support for nfo files. You can vote/comment in that thread.

With Plugin Support Dead - Can Plex finally have native .NFO support?

Natively supporting .NFO files for metadata as part of the Local Media Assets would go a long way for helping people with tons of home movies, alternative versions of films/tv shows, and other difficult to scrape content.

As for creating feature suggestions yourself, please post those in the Feature Suggestions category (though we’ll appreciate if you search for existing suggestions before “blindly” creating a duplicate that will cause votes/attention to be distracted/dispersed)
