Since the latest plex update whenever I stream at home it says I need to upgrade my account to stream remotely preventing me from streaming. But I’m at home and everything is on the same wifi. No other changes have occurred other than the app update. I am using apply tv and android tv. Any ideas on how to correct it?
Just as a sanity check, can you verify the IP addresses/netmasks for your client and server?
Just double checked it all and it all matches up
Any vpn on the server? If so, disable it.
Change dns on the clients to 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 or 1.1.1.1/1.0.0.1 to deal with dns rebind protection blocking local connections.
If your router allows it, change the dns there. If there’s a dns rebind setting, you can disable it or add an exception for plex.direct. Reboot the router and clients if you make changes.
Any custom network tools like a pihole running?
Confirm no device isolation settings on the router that would block local devices from communicating directly.
If server is on windows, make sure the network connection type is set to private, not public.
Disable plex relay and remote access in the plex settings so there isn’t a remote path for plex to connect.
no VPN
Changed on client and router
no custom network tools
no device isolation on router
working off Mac mini
both (relay, remote) now disabled
Still the same except I cannot see the library now. No connection
Is there a firewall active on the Mac Mini? Can disable it temporarily to see if that’s causing issues.
The old apps didn’t enforce the pass requirement, so they may have always been going remote to connect and you didn’t know.
Does your router/network have ipv6 enabled? If so, suggest disabling it.
This is expected since you took away the remote connection path.
No firewall
I disabled ipv6 now.
Sadly issue still there
Reboot/restart the server after disabling ipv6.
Can you share the ips of the Mac and the clients?
Is the wifi network a guest wifi network?
On the Mac, open terminal, can you ping the ip of the appletv or the android client.
From your phone, open a browser, can you reach http://<mac-ip>:32400/web ?
Might need to grab your server logs and share them.
Rebooted.

No guest network
My phone cannot reach that address but my browser on the Mac can.
Your Mac will reach it since it’s the same computer as the server. It’s talking to itself.
If your phone can’t reach the sever via direct ip, something in your router/network setup is isolating devices and not letting them communicate directly.
That’s only one ip..what are the IPs of each client.
Oops sorry.

Bell (Canada)
Home hub 3000
so it could be the router
There’s an issue that was impacting bell Canada users and their GigaHub router. If remote access was enabled, it blocked local direct connections. Usually disabling remote access and removing any port forwarding rules on the router allowed local only again,
I haven’t kept up with it, but you can search the sub for Bell and see if a fix ever came out. I can’t dig into it now, but will look a little later.
Ok thanks much for all your help so far
Check your router and make sure there are no forwarding rules that may still exist for your server, if there are, delete them. As I said earlier, my guess is your previous apps were going remote to connect, and since they didn’t enforce the pass requirement, it just worked. Now that it’s enforced in the new apps, it won’t allow streaming and when disabled it won’t even connect.
Here’s one of the threads, maybe you can reply there or mention them in this thread to see if they know of any updates. From what many of them said, when they disabled remote access and removed any forwarding rules, the local connections worked again…but then remote stopped. So it was one or the other. But you seem to be experiencing something slightly different since it won’t even connect locally with it all disabled.
As of a month ago, there are still folks mentioning the firmware issue on the Gigahub when I did a quick search on Reddit in the Bell sub.
