can there be an option to play local trailers only… meaning only ones on my server… It seems the trailers i put in folders and properly re-name are only available if you click on them and not played before a movie. Is there a setting maybe?
I think this is what you’re after:
In Plex Web, go to Settings > Server > Extras
Set the checkbox for “Include Cinema Trailers from movies in my library” if it isn’t already checked. Clear the others.
I did that… I ONLY want MY trailers meaning my content, not downloaded trailers referencing movies in my library. The trailers and extras are there BUT my local trailers do not play unless I click on them. I don’t want downloaded trailers at all…Just the ones I added to the movie folder. There is no option for that.
See this page. Look for ‘Enabling automatic extras’. Do the opposite.

Reverse the changes @beckfield advised you to make above.
Your local trailers must still be in the expected file naming format. If you have a trailer, it must be placed alongside its respective movie in a subfolder per movie.
You cannot have a folder full of random trailers without having the actual movies in your database.
Please don’t take me as a freaking dumbass. I do not have all the trailers in a folder. I have individual trailers in individual movie folders and they are named properly. I do not want any trailers downloaded and played I only want the ones in their individual folders played with their respective movies before each movie. Can this be accomplished?

Please read the rest of my previous post. Not just the last sentence. It should work this way. If it doesn’t, there might be a bug which needs to be investigated.
Start by telling me your server version. There was a bug related to local assets in the last version.
Another idea:
edit your movie library, go to the ‘Advanced’ tab.
Put a checkmark into ‘Enable Cinema Trailers’
remove the checkmark from ‘Find trailers and extras automatically (Plex Pass required)’ [you might to have to scroll down to see this one]

The setting I suggested doesn’t restrict trailers to those with the local movies? That’s certainly how the description reads.
Sorry if my instructions were in error.

This setting affects all trailers. Local and streamed ones.

Yes you can.
Edit the library again, enter the ‘Advanced’ tab and
change the scanner to ‘Plex Movie Scanner’ and
set the agent to ‘Freebase’.
Got that fixed thanks… Still my “personal” library of trailers are ignored and downloaded trailers play regardless of setting. Disappointing.

I think there has been some misunderstanding by the others helping you. This will not work. You cannot get the trailer for a movie to play before that same movie. The settings the others have mentioned will play a random trailer from those you added manually. It may play the trailer fro that specific movie, but if it does it is by chance.
To be clear. The cinema trailers feature will not play the trailer for Rocky before watching Rocky.
Disappointing… I wish we had that control. It makes sense that if you have trailers in your movie folder in a “trailer” sub-directory one would think they would have precedence or even exclusivity . But no…
I was adding my own cartoon shorts as trailers hoping they would work, Back in the day, cartoon shorts were played at drive-in theaters before the main feature… I was trying to recreate that by adding cartoons with a similar theme. For example bugs bunny - Baby Face Finster with a gangster movie… “Rocket bye baby” paired with a sci-fi flick and so on…
Has there been a fix for this yet?
I want my own “trailers” in my case movie shorts (cartoons) to play instead of downloaded trailers before the main feature plays, In fact I’d rather not have downloaded trailers at all… Any help?
No change on this that I’m aware of.
May I request the feature?
