had an extended internet outage, and while the plex app on roku continued to work… albeit slowly … logging onto the NAS running plex server and opening the web 127.0.0.1/… would not work. received an error it couldn’t connect to plex.tv
why - nothing about the internet is required to view/ manage my local library.?
While that is true, if you open a fresh web app session, you are not logged into your plex.tv user account. And in order to do that, you would need access to plex.tv
Plex server is requiring user authentication.
You want to instruct your web browser to NOT delete cookies from *.plex.tv when it’s closed.
If you use other apps with “privacy” or “clean up” tasks, make the necessary exceptions in their settings as well.
This way, you almost never have to re-authenticate when you open the web app – be it the local one, or the hosted web app.
(Of course you should not do that on a computer which is shared with other persions.)
An alternative would be to install and use either “Plex HTPC” or “Plex for Windows/Mac/Linux”. But you need to actually open these apps every few weeks at least once, because the login information stored in them is not kept valid over long periods of non-use.
