Logged into Plex Server to find all my media gone? HELP!

I opened the Plex Media Server like I always do. Then it forwarded me to my browser and I logged in, click on my username, enter my 4 digit code because I have my server locked. And when it brought me to the menu nothing showed up. It was like a new install of Plex or something. All it said was “Your home screen is empty” and when I click on “you media” it doesn’t connect to anything and says “Add your media to Plex”. I had tons of stuff in my Plex. Where did it all go? I can’t find anything! My playlists are gone. My music, movies, tv shows, everything. Nothing shows up. And I don’t know what happened here. Everything is still on my drives, but nothing shows up in Plex anymore.

Are your libraries maybe hidden under the “More” button in the main navigation?
If you haven’t been doing much with your server for a while, you might have missed the part where this was updated…
If your libraries are there you should be able to “reset customizations” on your home screen to reset the navigation – this will e.g. allow you to pick and pin your preferred (or all) libraries to the main navigation.

Server Version => Settings > [Server Name] > General > Version)

I clicked on that. It only shows Plex’s channels like Home, Music, etc. And my + My Media. That’s it. Basically the same thing show on the main menu.

I don’t know when the last time I used it. Maybe a few days ago? Everything was fine. All of a sudden it just up and disappeared.

Server version: Version 4.30.2

That’s the version of Plex Web… I take it you’re not even seeing your server settings?
Can you try connecting directly to your Plex Server via http://127.0.0.1:32400/web (if you’re on the same machine where the server is running) or http://[PMS IP address]:32400/web (if the server is on a different machine in your home network) – not via http://app.plex.tv/desktop!!

Okay, well that’s weird. Yeah, I logged in via the server link and it still brought me to an empty Plex. I don’t know how to explain it anymore than that, sorry. My server is on the same machine. I mean I mostly use my computer and rarely use anything outside of the browser to browse my collection. But no I can’t get to my server I guess. It was fine before but now it’s not working? Do you think restarting my computer would fix it? I kind of can’t do that at the moment because I’m trying to back up some files elsewhere. But if a simple restart might fix it then I’ll try that after I get this other thing done.

Well… it’s a Windows machine… so restarting it is part of the standard troubleshooting.

Did you use that Plex Media Server with a different Windows user before?
If restarting the server doesn’t do the trick… you might want to take a look at this support article:

No, I’m the only person that uses this machine so only one user. I’ll check out that link as well. Thanks. Let’s hope all it needs is a simple restart.

Edit: Just started reading that article. I did get the “no soup for you” message when I first opened the server. But I realized my media drive wasn’t on at the time. I turned it on thinking it would resolve that issue but like I said now it’s coming up with nothing at all. So maybe a system restart?

Restart didn’t work. :frowning:

Since your PMS is coming up empty, I think it would be important to find a good copy of the database that contains your data. Use SQLITE3 (link below) to investigate the database to make sure that your data is there. If you find that your data is actually missing in that database, gather up your backups, then find a copy of the database where your data exists. Once you have the database with your data, copy that database in to the main directory, then follow the steps in the ‘Repair a Corrupt Database’ guide.

On Windows, the database is stored at ‘%LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Plug-in Support\Databases’.

If your media are not stored inside the plex server machine, you want to set this preference to OFF:
Settings - Server - Library - “Empty trash automatically after every scan”

Another idea: do you use several Windows suser accounts?
It makes a difference which Windows user is logged in when the Plex server is started.

Hello, i have my media stored on a network HDD, this is plugged in my modem/router. Its a WDD Mycloud. Is this a good way to set it up?
As mentioned before, this is now the second time this has unfortunately happened. It seems like it is

As far as I can see, you have a Plex server directly installed on a WD NAS device. So it is not only storing your media files but also hosting the Plex server.

AND you also have apparently installed a second Plex server instance onto a Windows machine.
And then you have given both server instances the same “friendly name”.

I can see that this may give rise to confusion.
You might be simply looking at the wrong device.
