When setting up Plex for family members on their devices (all who have Managed User accounts), Plex automatically logs into the Admin account and bypasses the PIN.
Expected result: logging into a Plex account for the first time would first present the user list.
This is working as designed. You never give out your plex username/email address and password.
If a user has that, the PIN will be your smallest concern.
You as the Plex Home owner are supposed to sign-in the devices of your managed users. Once youâve done that, you perform a âSwitch Userâ to the desired managed user account.
If you have users whom you cannot trust, donât add them to your Plex Home and donât share your media with them.
But this is the workflow that is suggested in the Plex support files. Otherwise, what is the point of Managed Users? Even on Amazon or Netflix it asks you âwhoâs watchingâ first.
I should also note that this has, for me, nothing to do with security, and more about a better flow for the user. If there are multiple profiles, it is better for the user that we ask âwho is watchingâ before assuming you want to be on the main account.
Early 2021 clean-up: works as designed; initial login requires admin user â subsequently, user selection will show whenever the app is started (except auto-login is enabled)
