I'm thinking of getting a TV box to sit between my network & TV rather than streaming from my tablet. I really like the look of the Logitech Revue (after is has official HC update) and prefer it over Apple TV2 but was wondering if this will play media in the same quality as saved or (like the Android app) will try to transcode as it plays.
Also, can anyone show me what the menu looks like when using a TV box (ATV2 / other) as I'd like it to look as close to the Android app look / feel as possible as this is what my wife & kids have gotten used to.
Not if only there was parental controls, I'd let the kids watch what they want......
I have a revue, and even after the HC update. it kinda sucks. plex is good (it will be great), quality is perfect (no transcoding) but the hardware is a bit limited and logitech were a bit tight and didn’t license DTS, so if you have anything with DTS audio - no sound. the hardware just doesn’t seem right, but now that GTV is heading to ARM hardware that will hopefully improve on the next generation of boxes/tv’s with GTV.
I have noticed that LG have released a box that will add all the lg smart tv features to any tv. LG have a plex app, maybe someone who has it can comment on it. alternatively, samsung bluray players have smart capability (you can install apps) and the samsung plex app is great (I use it on my samsung telly). The sony bluray version of GTV has DTS ability so of all the GTV’s its probably the best option (though double the cost I think) but honestly I’d steer clear of GTV until we see how the next gen hardware performs. There is also a roku app I believe, I have no experience with the roku boxes but I’m sure there is someone here who can fill you in, or youtube it, I’m sure theres a video of plex running on a roku box.
