I am trying to use a Logitech Smart Harmony Keyboard with Rasplex. I have added the Bluetooth dongle to the raspberry but in the menu Bluetooth the message is no bluetooth adapter found.
Does Rasplex support Bluetooth keyboards and what must I do to get the keyboard recognized by Rasplex?
I haven’t tried any bluetooth equipment with RasPlex myself, but for all other cases where I’ve used bluetooth there has been a two-sided pairing process required to achieve initial connection. After this ‘pairing’ the units usually are able to keep cooperating even after being turned off and on again, with just one of the devices needing to activate the connection again (in this case that would be the keyboard). But for the initial pairing both devices must actively participate. I assume this means that you’d need to do the pairing in the bluetooth submenu of the “System Settings” menu in RasPlex.
Since you mention seeing ‘no adaptor found’ in that menu, my guess is that the adaptor you use may not be compatible.
----- some tests later ----- my first bluetooth tests with RasPlex -----
I’ve now tested one bluetooth keyboard with RasPlex 0.5.0.
I connected a bluetooth adaptor to one of the USB ports of the RPi and restarted the unit. I then went in to the ‘System Settings’ menu and activated the bluetooth interface in the “Services” submenu (it’s enabled by default, but I always disable it as I don’t usually use bluetooth). Then I went to the bluetooth submenu which now contained one BT device entry for my TV set (not useful with RasPlex though as it’s for input to the TV), and while there I turned on the keyboard and activated its connection/pairing scanner. this caused another BT device entry to appear in the blutooth submenu, for the BT keyboard. Selecting that entry (with my normal USB keyboard) and pressing enter opened a popup menu with an entry for connecting the BT keyboard, which had to be done by using that BT keyboard to enter a six-digit number ended by Enter. The popups then closed and the BT device entry was marked as connected. But that keyboard still didn’t work for controlling RasPlex. In order for that to happen I had to restart yet again, so that the BT keyboard was recognized during the startup process. It then worked properly for one session, but with all functionality lost after I turned that keyboard off and then on again. I was then unable to make it work again, even by deleting the entry and starting the entire procedure from scratch. So the end result was that I only had it working for one brief session, and was unable to repeat it.
Conclusion: The BT interface of RasPlex needs a lot of improvement. Its use is awkward at best. (But then, I’ve always disliked the BT methods of connection.)
I’ll definitely stick to using my current mini keyboards with normal non-BT USB dongles for the RF connection. These just work, without any configuration or pairing process required.
Thank you dlanor for the testing. I didn’t manage to get the harmony keyboard to work with Rasplex. I now use again a K400r keyboard without bluetooth and flirc to remote control Rasplex and that works. Perhaps in the future there is some improvement in supported bluetooth keyboards with Rasplex.
