Recently i’ve migrated my server from one cloud-dedicated to another, everything was good, and i have all my stats, libraries and contents in same place.
Except he mount-point. Now it’s in /mnt/folder-mount-point. I had to edit in every movie or tv-series libraries the folder where my files are.
But, the the most numerous one, it’s taking looooooong time, almost a week, and and I still have left two music libraries and my personal photos.
…The server it’s a Xeon 1220V3 with 8 GB RAM DDR3 and 2 HDD 2 TB each. Linux based and Ubuntu 20LTS.
…
How can I find out why it takes so long?
Without some additional details its somewhat hard to tell what might be the issue but these are some things you should consider …
What plex agent/scanner are you using ? Is it the new modern ones or the slower legacy ones.
Does your media match the recommended plex naming, including placing movies inside their own folders to help with performance. Same for TV and Music, make sure to follow the guidelines.
Do you have Prefer local metadata enabled on your libraries ? This can slow things down as plex needs to scan indepth each file for its embedded tags.
Under settings / library do you have stuff like Generate video preview thumbnails enabled for when media is added. This goes for each of the high cpu intensive tasks in that section. I’d always recommend setting these to never until everything is added to my libraries and then I’d change them after the initial scanning / matching is complete.
Okay, what about Generate intro video markers, Analyze audio tracks for loudness or Analyze audio tracks for sonic features ? These could also be a factor.
That’s fairly large, I’ve 675 shows with 30k episodes but I can still scan and match (from scratch) in approx 60-90 minutes but I do have a fast’ish machine and very fast internet connection. I’m surprised yours is that large as you state 2 HDD 2 TB each or that just your plex server and not the media ?
If plex itself is installed on spinning disks as opposed to an SSD then that could be a significant factor in the slow performance.
i’m not analizing for the skip intro, altought i’ll liked, it’s an insane job due the amount of files. that’s not the point.
in other hand, the music libraries are not planned to be scanned, will be the last ones … the feature for sonic analysis it’s done and saved in the previous server…i think
…and the whole plex it’s about 120 GB
…the machine it’s powerful enough to do the job in a 2 or 3 hours
at this point, erasing whole library and re-doing again, perhaps will be faster. rhe watched status are saved at trakt and pms itself
I’m sure chuck will add way more insight than me but for sure you have music work happening on your server (and lots of it). Example below from your log file …

well
…meanwhile talking with yours, finally the tv-series library ended the scan…now i’m scanning the last various artists library and in the end, my personal photos
…i still don’t know why the previous libraries taking so long, but ended
maybe it would have been better to add the new mount point (/mnt/orbtwin-plex) … scan the library, and finally erase the old path …
…with the photos one, i’ll do that
