I’ve been sitting on top of some minor annoyances for a while and after checking to see they’re not known issues, decided it was time to throw them into a post so I could sleep easier at night knowing they’ve at least been reported for consideration/fixing.
Issue #The First:
My primary Plex library features 188 movie collections, and often I’m not in the mood to click on Movies, Collections, and then scroll for 7 seconds to get to “Zatoichi”. Instead, I’ll use the searchbar-
If I know the name of the collection I’m looking for this is great- I can click on the collection straight from the search and be on my way. Sometimes, however, I only know the name of the movie I’m looking for and not the collection it’s a part of. In this case, I’d click on the movie, look under the cast list, and click on the name of the collection it’s a part of.
I can think of no practical reason this click should behave differently from choosing a collection from the Collection list.
Instead, it brings us to a version of the collection sorted Alphabetically with no poster. Above is a side by side example of what is produced vs what is expected.
Issue #The Second:
When I look at my “RECENTLY ADDED MOVIES(/TV/(MUSIC))” section and hover over a title, there’s a wonderful pip in the upper left corner.
This beautiful feature lets me select multiple titles, click the edit button in the upper right, and tag a bunch of entries to the same collection-
It’s a real struggle then when I decide to create a collection down the road, well past these movies being in “RECENTLY ADDED”, and I no longer have this option.
Searching for a movie, hitting enter, and hovering over any of the results doesn’t show this same pip, which is demoralizing when deciding to add 35+ movies one-at-a-time to the “Godzilla” collection.
Problem #The Last:
So picture me here sorting 60+ movies into “Godzilla”, “Kaiju”, “Mothra”, “Gamera”, etc collections one at a time because multi-select is weirdly restricted to certain menus. The working conditions are grueling, but my determination and power of heart will carry me through. I’m in the groove, clicking edit and typing in collection names like a well oiled machine. Suddenly, I get to Son of Godzilla 1967 and when I type in “Go-” into the field expecting a dropdown full of my collections, all I get is “Add Go…”. It turns out that clicking and typing in the letters too fast results in the collection list never appearing, which means I have to awkwardly adjust my pacing to meet the speed of the dropdown. (Edit>Tags>Collections>WAIT>U…niversal Classic Monsters) x 35. This last one isn’t really possible to capture in image form, so if you really need an example let me know and I’ll do a screen recording.
TL;DR- Collections from searched/selected titles, Multi-Selecting, and Collection Tagging need some QOL fixes/tuning
Thanks for coming to my TED Talk. I’m hopeful these aren’t super big “5-year-plan” asks because they’d make my experience and I’m sure the experience of other Plex users immediately and not insignificantly that much more convenienced.
