TLDR; My goal is to maintain 4K resolution but having the option to drop the bitrate to an amount that the network can handle using built in Plex features.
Hello,
I finally decided to purchase a LG DVD Drive and started ripping 4K UHD (mkv). Each file is around 40-60gbs and a bit rate 50+ mbps. There is no issue at home due to having gig connection. Just today I had to update to the newest version I could.find of the plex player because the web based option had an “Convert 4K Auto” option only which would never buffer. Don’t know why but at least there is a work around. It seems to happen with HDR content.
The problem really arrises when I want to access my content from another home. Perfect example is at my partner’s house… 4KHDR tv but pulling 20mb on speedtest. Plex has only given me the option to scale down to 1080P 20mbps. No option whatsoever for 4K even when the new beta feature to test for speeds is on.
My goal is to maintain 4K resolution but having the option to drop the bitrate to an amount that the network can handle. I would prefer to this without having to compress each movie to bitrates I find i’ll face. The plex scan also doesn’t support anything above 1080p. Thanks.
