Looking for help copying my plex watched status from my old QNAP NAS to my new custom server build running TrueNas Core. I have access to the old database on the QNAP server and can copy files from it but have no idea how to migrate it to the TrueNas server. Have family members I share my library with so using trakt isn’t an option for moving all the watched status of videos. Any help would be appreciated.
Have already read this, if you read the top it talks about going between two of the same operating systems. My old NAS device is LINUX based and new OS is UNIX and thats where i’m having issues. If there is a way I can copy the file containing the watched status of movies and TV shows for all users though that would work for what I need?
Haven’t moved any yet as I don’t know what to move. I am not super familiar with how the jails work and how to setup permissions on the TrueNas machine
You want to zip the folder up before you move it, otherwise this copy operation will take many hours.
But before you move the library you need to have Plex installed in the new server. Note that if you are using the plug-in the data directory location is slightly different than the location when you just make a normal jail and install using pkg-ng.
So I followed the instructions and it hasn’t worked. Tried doing it again after a reinstall of plex to clean it up on the new server and that didn’t help either. Each time I just couldn’t get the webpage to load to manage it. Tryed then going from the plex.tv link and accessing it that way instead of the Jail IP and still no luck. Any other ideas?
Is this failing at the initial install? Or only after you try it with your transferred library?
You should set up the new Plex server first to make sure the install is fine, then shut it down and swap the library over. Don’t forget to make filesystem snapshots between so you can just roll back if you mess up and need to try again so you don’t have to do all the steps from 0.
Well then yeah, this may be an actual case where a library cannot be moved to another OS.
If you’re retiring the QNAP because you want something with more horsepower you’re going to be out of luck. If this a matter of just needing more storage space you could move the media files to the new TrueNAS system and keep the Plex sever running on the QNAP for now to keep the old library, you will probably want to move it completely at some point. This can be as easy as “everyone finish your current seasons as I’m going to reset everything” or as complicated as starting a second server and rotating content to the new system gradually over time, starting with things people have not watched.
Yeah needed a bit more juice for the amount of work the server would be doing. Will just let poeple know to rap it up. Hopefully a feature is built into plex in the future to allow for easier migration to a new server. Thanks for your help.
