I’m used to WMC and I used an app from Ceton called “My media center”. I could simply be watching tv and see a commercial for a new show i liked and fire up the ceton app on my phone and pull up a tv schedule and schedule the recording right through my phone. Now I have tried to look up show names in the search box of Plex to try to find them in advance but no luck.I have to wait until the day of the recording and then go into plex under program guide and find what i want to record under “new episodes tonight” and schedule the recording and set it up to repeat etc. etc. Is there any easier way to schedule a recording like a week or 2 before it airs? Thanks in advance for any comments/help it’s greatly appreciated!
It has been announced that Plex is working on a triditional full guide grid layout to bring it more in line with the way people typically use such DVR devices. There is no eta for this unfortunately.
As you suggested an app like the Ceton My Media Center app would be useful but I know of no such app for Plex.
However, any search you do in the Plex Media Server web management interface should yield what you are looking for. If it doesn’t and you know your target search falls within what should be the available guide data info then you might want to try initiating a guide refresh. The theory there being that if on Monday the show you are looking for that airs on Friday isn’t available in a search then perhaps your guide info has fewer then 4 days worth of data,…for example.
If that doesn’t help are you running the latest version of Plex Media Server? If not updating might help.
A full guide grid will help somewhat because if a search results yields nothing then it will be easier to drill down in the guide to verify what is going on at the date, time and channel.
One other tip, if you know an actor in the show you are looking for is in another project, you can do a search for that other show. If you find that other show and the actor info is available, click on the actor and it should list the other shows that actor is in. You might be able to find your show that way.
