Lots of issues with OpenPHT on Pi

I’ve tried a lot of Plex clients and OpenPHT is my favorite, but I’m having a lot of issues that make it very frustrating.

  1. When starting my TV the Pi starts up before my receiver comes on and activates the HDMI ports, this causes the Pi to start up in 720p mode, and without linking to my TV controller. I can’t find a way to fix this unless I then unplug the Pi and have it boot up while set to the correct input on the receiver. It will then boot up fine in 1080p mode and things are grand, except for point #2. I really want to fix this as I want it to work like an AppleTV/nVidia Shield, turn it on and it works.

  2. Even if I do step 1 above, it doesn’t always link up to my TV remote properly. This was mostly a problem with issue one, but now is happening even if I reboot the Pi after starting the equipment. I can’t find a way to fix this when it happens and have to resort to the iPhone app. On a side note, is there any way to configure what remote it uses? I have a TV, Receiver, Apple TV, and Cable remote, I was thinking the receiver remote would be the best option. Eventually, I will likely get a Harmony.

  3. Is there a way to hide a specific server (and specific libraries), I have a local and remote plex server, but when using the Pi I only want to show the libraries from the local server.

  4. Any way to get TV Shows to show up like movie posters with the black skin instead of horizontal.

  5. Is the Plex Black the best skin, or are there third party ones that are better, I like the skin a lot, but just curious if that is the best option.

Is there a reason you are powering the Pi down? Why not power it up so it detects 1080p mode, then leave it powered on.

I have a “smart” power strip that cuts the electricity to everything once the control outlet is shut off. It does this to eliminate phantom draws. I have the AppleTV & PS4 on the exception ports, so I didn’t have room for the Pi as well. I swapped it out the other day to be a regular strip and keep it on. That helps resolve a lot of the issues as long as I don’t lose power or have a hiccup, then it is back to dicking with it until it is right. But I still have issues with the remote.

Very bad idea to just shut the power off to the Pi. This will (And it will, it’s happened to me) screw up your SD card forcing a reflash. The power draw of the Pi is so small you are much better off leaving the power on all the time.

I know about this, but the surge protector I had didn’t have more outlets to avoid it. I since switched that to a standard surge protector, but I know a lot of people who use the USB port of the TV to power the Pi and it works fine for ages. Rasplex is mostly a read-only system, so it isn’t as much of a concern.
