Ok, so I feel like I begged for Plex to get some music appropriate features for years, and suddenly with Plexamp, @elan’s promised bounty has started a flood. Here’s my problem – I’m getting lost in all these new features. There are radios, mixes, downloads, sonic analysis, and now sonic adventures. Help me @elan, you’re my only hope! I need some basic explanations around where features reside and what the methodology behind each feature is. Some of these I know, but I’m trying to create a good reference post, long term.
Here are my questions:
Where do I initiate a track radio?
Is track radio based on sonics or similar artists or similar tracks?
Where do I initiate an artist radio?
Is artist radio based on sonics or similar artists?
Will an artist radio include additional artists, or just the initiating artist?
Where do I initiate an album radio?
Is track radio based on sonics or similar artists or similar albums?
Does “artist mix builder” include just the artists I select or additional artists as well?
Is “artist mix builder” based on sonics or similar artists?
Does “album mix builder” include just the albums I select or additional albums as well?
Is “album mix builder” based on sonics or similar artists?
What does this icon do?
I know this is a lot, but I feel like all these new features are starting to get very muddy, especially around which ones are looking at the sonic analysis data.
i’m on vacation for a few weeks, but roughly, sonic analysis is used a bit for artist radio (to find similar artists), track radios, album mix builder, and the sonic adventure.
forgive me for saying this, but i think maybe you might be caring a bit too much about how the sausage is made. if it tastes delicious, eat it!
i’m sure others can fill in the other basic questions you have around radios.
Fair enough. But even the bit you passed along is helpful. I think the issue is that right now, I don’t know when I pick one of these options if I’m going to get songs based on how they sound vs them being by another band that Plexamp thinks I’ll like. But to your point, maybe I need to stop caring.
