It was set to none, its not Huge. No difference in either
TV is a UN65KS8000. How would it be occurring in the TV?
Sonos is setup via optical to my Samsung One Connect box.
Sorry for the delay⦠was out. TV speakers dont produce the same volume issue. Sound is the same consistently throughout the inputs.
Iām sure you already have googled it, but this seems to be an issue with the Sonos playbar and some optical insā¦
You may want to google around to see if anyone found a fix or workaround.
The inputs are all HDMI, the XBOX, and DTV play the sound normally on the Sonos. My nVidia Shield is hooked up via HDMI and they all plug into the Samsung One Connect.
I can try swapping HDMI cabled and ports on the One Connect, but not sure that will resolve it.
If it was the toslink connection and or One Connect box wouldnt all the devices have the same symptoms?
Not to try to hijack this thread but here is my finding.
I have the same problem as OP.
5.1ch movies sounds quiet when played via plex (NVIDIA shield TV) to a Sony Bravia TV. The same file sounds correctly loud when being played via vlc, kodi, mxplayer (these are all on NVIDIA shield TV), dlna player set top box device, ps4 to the same tv. All other apps have consistent loud enough sound level compared to plex (playing the same file to the same tv) .
All devices are connected via hdmi to the tv. The tv audio setting is set as s-force surround sound. In this setting, plex thinks that my setup has 5.1ch because of the s-force surround sound tv setting so plex is sending out 5.1ch as is to the TV.
By disabling the s-force surround sound, plex correctly transcode audio from 5.1 to 2ch before sending it to TV. However the sounds are still consistently more quiet compared to all apps and physical movie players I mentioned above. Changing audio boost doesnāt impact at all. I even tested this with db noise checker. So I believe that plex for Android audio boost feature in fact doesnāt work at all.
I tested with other tv, my 2017 LG TV it has the same issue for plex.
I believe that the sound volume level that kodi output are the correct one because itās consistent with all other apps I tried, even with my PC and ps4 when I connect them to the same tv playing the same movie.
I have tried this with all kinds of bitrates and audio format I have ranging from low bitrates AAC to highest bitrates Dolby Digital in my bluray remux.
My guess is that audio engine that plex uses, the new exoplayer, outputs significantly lower sound volume, regardless this is the correct thing to do or not. While all other apps above and other physical media players they donāt use exoplayer to begin with. They use something different that somehow consistently outputs the correct loud enough sound that we are use to.
Iām guessing this is also why a lot of people hate plex for Android because of the inconvenience caused by exoplayer quirks.
So how to solve this? I think if you only can use plex, then the safest bet is to have AVR match your movies. If you have 5.1ch movies then you buy AVR with PHYSICAL 5.1ch speakers. You want to have 6 physical speakers, not emulated, not virtual speakers.
If you are not limited to only use plex then many other apps currently can do louder sounds like kodi, emby, infuse for Apple tv, mpv for Android, your bluray player. Or just crank up the volume and be done with it.
However it would be nice if plex thinks if exoplayer is really the best approach for Android.
First of all. Itās the plex app on my shield, on my Samsung and on my firetv. Take your pick, same results.
You are being ignorant and ridiculous. Iām surprised that you have a moderator icon. Well maybe Iām not surprised, your comments truly shows the character of plex as a company .
I was out of town for a couple weeks and didnt have time to mess around with this.
Im not sure what me making several videos is going to accomplish other than you actually believing what Im saying.
Hopefully I can clear the confusion. Heres my setup once again and the symptoms:
- Samsung KS8000 TV hooked up the Samsung One Connect box via HDMI.
- nVidia shield (my PLEX client) hooked up to the one connect box via HDMI.
- Xbox one X hooked up to the one connect box via HDMI.
- DirectTV hooked up up to the one box via HDMI.
- Sonos PlayBar hooked up to the one connect box via Optical.
1a. TV sound is fine playing sound WITHOUT Sonos bar on.
2a. nVidia sound is fine when I watch Netflix, NBA TV, etc from the Shield. The PLEX app sound is very low compared to the other 2 apps.
3a. Xbox One X sound is normal when watching playing games. Iāve tested PLEX on the ONE X and the sound is also LOW on the ONE X
4a. DirectTV sound is fine watching all shows/movies.
Summarize.
Ive tried 2 physical hardware resources running PLEX on both and theyāre both low volume. I dont have an issue with other apps/sources on the 2 devices however, just the PLEX app.
Hope this clears up any confusion.
I told you exactly what Im referring to⦠Nothing to guess about. What are you confused about? I explained in my last post exactly the issues.
Maybe thats the issue with all of your replies? Youāre trying to hear my response rather than read it?
The fact of the matter is that the volume isnt as loud as other sources when Im streaming movies via PLEX, regardless of the hardware device thats streaming it.
Ill dumb it down for you:
Sonos volume is set at lets just say a 6. Football, Shows, movies on my DirectTV sound fine. I switch inputs to my Shield/XboxOne X and the volume is fine. I open plex on either device and play a movie and I can barely hear them talking. So I turn the volume up to lets just say a 12. I change my source BACK to my DirectTV and the volume is crazy loud.
Do you understand now?
Pretty sure youāve been done since my first post. Iāve explained the issue in detail, there isnt a DEMONSTRATION needed. Sounds like you dont know the answer so youāre asking for things that provide zero relevance. Appreciate the feedback you tried to give though.
