Low volume on room TV/Soundbar

Hi there,

My plex collection is mostly 5.1 for better enjoyment on my living room system.

In my bedroom, I have a much cheaper system (Xiaomi TV + soundbar), but I’m having issue with sound volume. Even though I’m cranking the volume to 100%, it’s still very low and dialogs are typically quite hard to hear. For comparison, with other online media services I use, I can stick to 35% volume and that’s fine.

I tried the audio boost in the plex client, but I don’t think this is having an effect (?).

Is there anything I can do to improve the situation? And for my info: is downmixing done on the PMS, or the plex client in the TV? I don’t see any settings relating to audio volume either way, btw :frowning:

Thanks!
Tim

I have a different idea:
Your Android box is lying to the Plex app about the number of attached speakers.
The Plex app thinks it has 5.1 speakers attached, so it plays the original surround mix.
But dialog is mainly on the ‘Center’ channel, which has no speaker connected in your bedroom.

So Plex should mix down the 5.1 audio to stereo. But it will only do that if it knows that the device has only stereo speakers.

Look in the settings of your Android box. Maybe there is a way to force stereo sound.
