m4v multichannel music files

I'm not sure if this is in the right place and I cannot find anything in the search about it.

I have a bunch of DVD Audio multichannel music discs that I have ripped using DVD Audio Extractor.  They were ripped into 5.1 ALAC files with a .m4v extension so they could be played through iTunes.  This works and when my HTPC is connected to my HT system via HDMI, I get beautiful 5.1 channel music.

The files are in my normal iTunes music folder structure.

I want to add these files to Plex.  Using a Music library and scanner, they are ignored.  If I create a separate Personal Video library and scan, they are found, but they don't get correctly sorted into albums, etc. and the album art is sketchy at best.

What is the best way to accomplish this?

Thank you,

Graeme Black

My mistake, the files are actually .mp4 files.

I was able to rename all the file *.mp3 and the scanner found them and added them, what appears to be correctly.  Here is a media info xml for one of the files::

The only thing now is that if I play the music on a two channel device, I only hear those two channels, it isn't being mixed down into 2 channels.  Do I need to use an audio transcoder to create a two channel track to go with it?  It doesn't matter that much since I would normally only play this music on a 5.1 capable device.
