My mac player app stopped working all of a sudden. I still can use the chrome player but I hope you can fix it soon. I had to uninstall it because you don’t even get a main screen anymore when you try to open it.
Is the app itself still running (e.g. visible/active icon in the Dock) or crashing?
If it’s crashing… can you try this to see any related error messages?
Open Finder and navigate to /Applications
Select Show Content from the context menu of the Plex.app item
Navigate to Contents/MacOS
Open the Terminal app
Drag the Plex executable from the Finder window (#3) into the Terminal Window and press Return to execute it
This is no different from running the app, so it won’t succeed – but you should get a more specific error message about what’s causing it to fail starting.
I’ve been using it for years, it just stopped working one day. I did what you said, the app runs, it’s visible in the dock, but nothing comes up, no main screen, no nothing. You can even see it in the activity monitor, but nothing happens, no main screen or anything.
Do you have multiple screens in mission control (doesn’t need to be physical displays) and the Plex app assigned to a different one than the one showing? → check via the macOS Mission Control app.
Also… on what version of macOS are you experiencing this?
It does not come up on mission control either. I can’t explain it any better, its running but it has no screen, it’s like it’s running only on the background. You can only tell it is running because you can see its icon is activated in the dock. I’m running the latest Tahoe 26.0.1 25A362 on a Macbook Pro on an M3 Pro chip and 18 GB of memory. Like I said, it worked till a couple of days ago, then it just stopped
Hmm… I’m on Tahoe 26.0.1 too and it’s working for me.
Did you by chance minimize the window and it keeps re-opening in that state? With that, you should only see the app icon + the icon of the minimized screen in your dock (but it won’t show in mission control).
Another scenario might be the window is “hidden” (e.g. from the dock’s app icon context menu → Hide. If that’s the case, macOS should offer you an option to Unhide the window from the same context menu).
Edit:
if the app is “hidden” but you didn’t actively hide it… there seems to be an issue on macOS 26:
