I am just considering installing Windows on my Mac Mini but before I do I wonder if anyone else has done the same and if so have you been able to finally be free of plain old DTS and enjoy DTS-HD?

Playback of DTS HD audio is dependent upon your client. If your client does not support DTS HD then you cannot expect to listen to DTS HD content, it will need to be transcoded to a suitable format for that client. There are very few clients that will handle DTS HD correctly and some will only play 5.1 channels and not 7.1, it all depends on what your client is able to decode.
Assuming you are using OpenPHT, then simply switching to Windows probably wont have the desired effect you are looking for.
Check out the DTS-HD MA 7.1 forum here: https://forums.plex.tv/discussions/tagged/dts-hd-ma-7-1/p1 for more information and details on how to playback DTS HD-MA 7.1 audio on various clients.
That’s true, but in the end, OSX just doesn’t support HD audio formats yet. That said, in PMP if you disable the DTS pass-through, plex won’t be able to do pass-through for the core DTS part of your audio and the DTS-HD will be sent as LPCM, giving you the same audio quality…
As for 24p playback, I am not sure so I won’t comment.
